                           WHEN YOUR LIPS LIE
                   Chapter 5: Nothing like yesterday

Still sore from yesterday, I arrive at school and meet Sophie by the lockers. She tells me there are open spots for students interested in tutoring others.
I'm not the best student nor am I the smartest, but I do have outstanding grades and a natural gift for tutoring. Plus, tutoring would look good on my college applications.
We head to the student council office to fill out the applications and make our way to our separate morning classes.

Today's first class is chemistry.
Great.
Just the level of boredom I needed to start my day.

I take a seat in one of the empty chairs in the classroom just as the teacher, Mr Rocket walks in.
Yes, his name is Mr Rocket....
I guess now I get to say that it really is rocket science.
*Buh duhm tch*
Sorry.

We begin the lesson and I find myself zoning in and out of focus. I turn to the last page of my notebook and begin doodling.
A star fish named Patrick.
SpongeBob.
Oh and a frowning cat.
It looks really moody... kind of like Li-

"Liam!. How nice of you to join us"  Mr Rocket sarcastically says.
I look up to see Liam stood at the front of the classroom. His expression as tense as ever.
Now he really looks like the frowning cat.

"Take a seat Mr McDavidson."

Liam makes his way to an empty seat at the back of the classroom. He doesn't look at me once. We hadn't exactly left things on a high note, with me accusing him of undressing me while unconscious, and I definitely felt it in the cold air as he walked right past me.

I try my best to focus for the rest of the lesson and get some work done.

The bell rings.

Finally!

I make my way to my second morning class which is drama.
Yay!
There aren't many subjects in school that I actually enjoy. Drama being the exception. Not only do I find it fun, I also really like my drama teacher. She's my favorite teacher in Purple Birk high and the only one I don't feel low-key wants to bite my head off.

"Good morning Miss Richards." I happily chirp.
She turns to face me, smiling she replies. "Good morning Mia, I take it you had a lovely summer holiday?"
I smile back nodding my head in agreement.
My summer holiday consisted of me working, working and oh... some more working so no, I did not in fact have a lovely summer holiday but she didn't need to know that.

Miss Richards is a sweetheart. She is one of those women that are so beautiful they don't realise it. With a heart of gold and a calm voice that can slip you into a trance, it's no wonder all the males at our school crush on her. Students and teachers included. But she doesn't see it. Call it perks or curse of being a drama nerd but she just kind of lives in her own world paying little to no mind to the chaos around her.
I envied that.

"So, did you hear about the end of school play we're putting on this year?" She asks handing me a thick script.
"Uh... yeah. I saw it on the notice board yesterday." I reply taking the script.
"What's the play about?" I ask.
"Well it's about a bright young girl who finds peace and comfort in the one place she never thought to look. She realises life isn't as black and white as it seems and maybe, sometimes risks are there for us to take. She's learnt to play it safe but for some reason, she feel sorry for herself." She explains.
"That sounds interesting." I say looking at the script in my hand.
"It really is Mia." She replies.
"You should have a read, I think you'll enjoy it. And maybe, you'll discover something about yourself too."
I look back up at her nodding my head smiling.
"Will you be auditioning for the play this year?" Her eyes were fixed on mine with a hint of hope and plea spread across them.
