Ch.10
It's funny how old friends can catch up so quickly with each other over a 10 minute period time. That's basically what we did, well that and how we were going to hide and disguise him even though he was hairy enough no one would ever think it to be him. After I while we just sat and stared at each other. There was no one reason to we just did. I guess his death was recent and his funeral was about an hour past, we didn't have much to talk about. It was only a month ago when they found his body in a dump truck near the end of town and just about three days ago could they identify it as his. I mean, the whole situation was wacky. First he gets pushed off the top of a school building and into a dump truck then, they have to identify if it was his body or not. Like seriously, who else's body couldn't that be? Do people just jump off the building and hopefully land in a dump truck? I keep asking him how he survived and his response is always "Long Story". But when he says it he has this long and sad stare, I know he's hiding something but I don't know exactly what. Ben stayed for a few nights telling me he doesn't want to be who he is now. I told him that we would go find Alyssia in the morning. Alyssia is one of the elders. She has eyes as gray as storm clouds; she has long gray and white hair. She skinny but has a hunch back and uses a cane to walk. Nothing gets past her. Not even the quiet people who sit in the back of a class. Not even the people who cross the street to walk on the opposite side of her. When that happens she usually shouts at them and calls them out for not wanting to cross her path. She seems to have a mean personality but if you got to know her she's nice.
I remember waking up the morning me and Ben were going to go see her. I couldn't find him anywhere. I got dressed and went to Alyssia's without him, I'd find him later. I went upstairs and out the front door, it was cold. I looked around a saw that it had rained the night before. I looked up at the sky, dark. It of course was always dark at night; I can't remember a day when it wasn't. My house was hidden by trees, almost how benches at night are hidden by trees in the park. I walked to the park and down the path that lead to her house. Once in awhile night joggers with dogs or others would pass by and smile; but that's the only contact I had with the outside world. None the less I always kept walking, down the path deeper and closer to the entrance to the woods. The closer I got the darker it got. I wasn't afraid because I knew whatever was watching me was more afraid of me then I was of it. The trees started to enclose on me the leaves became pitch black. It was so dark out that the only out line I saw was the outline of the path I was walking on. With every step I took little twigs or leaves would crunch and break under me. As I was walking down the path something stopped me. I couldn't tell what or who it was. It just sat there in the middle of the path. It was a black lump; I could tell it was alive or at least moving because once in awhile if I focused on it really hard I could see the movements of its stomach going up and down. I wanted to go and touch it but I was afraid. The black lump started to drag its helpless shape towards me making a small groaning sound. Then it jumped at me and starting to bite me, digging its small teeth into my arms and body; drawing blood from the inside of me and into its mouth. I screamed frantically, I didn't know what to do so I started punching it in the side. It wailed and jumped off me crawling back into the darkness in which it held it.
I was shocked at what happened that I just lay there until I fell asleep. The ground beneath me, the cool damp earth surrounds me as the sky and the path lightens. I could finally see the trees and path. I heard ringing of bicycle bells off into the distance as I gradually fell asleep. But the ringing kept getting closer and closer, finally I felt my arm get crushed and the sounds of tire squeaking.
"Oh my goodness is you ok?" I look up and see Ben dropping his bike to the ground and running over to me
"BEN! Where have you been? "
"Around..."
As I looked up his face was covered in blood and so was his jacket. I could tell he was trying to shave again. He kind of looked like hairless Jacob from twilight but with shorter hair and flimsy body type. I remember going to the mall with him once. Girls kept running up to him and asking for a picture and his number. They just looked at me and stared it's not my fault if I look like Voldemort. Then again there was that one girl who went to me asked for my number and pictured. She hung out with me the whole week. Ben was out hitting the stores and spending all the money I had, so then he started working at the local Music Shop. But that girl was beautiful; she wasn't like anyone else in the world. She was nice and friendly; he had a great smile and always made me laugh. Her name was jennet and it fit her well.
"HENRY?" ben snapped his fingers in my face twice. I had fallen out the trance almost instantly.
"Hm...?" I looked around and I realized I was still in the woods with ben sitting in the middle of the path. I got up and started to walk again forgetting that Ben was following behind me closely and asking questions. By the time we got to Alyssia's he had giving up on asking me questions and just kept quiet, I opened my mouth to say something but once we walked up to the house it closed again and I immediately began to cry.
