Sehej Singh Aulakh
As I carried Jasnoor out of the warehouse, her body trembling with shock and exhaustion, my heart ached with a mixture of relief and anger. Relief that she was safe in my arms once more, but anger at the perpetrators who had dared to threaten her life.
With each step, I held her closer, her weight a comforting presence against my chest as I navigated the dimly lit streets towards my car. The city seemed to blur around us, the chaos and noise fading into the background as my sole focus remained on the woman in my arms.
Gently placing her in the passenger seat, I fastened her seatbelt with trembling hands before sliding into the driver's seat and starting the engine. The drive home was silent, the tension palpable as we both grappled with the events of the night.
As we pulled up to my penthouse apartment, I helped Jasnoor out of the car and guided her inside, the familiar surroundings offering a sense of sanctuary amidst the chaos of the outside world. Settling her onto the couch, I knelt beside her, my gaze softening as I brushed a stray lock of hair from her face.
"Are you hurt?" I asked gently, my voice laced with concern.
Jasnoor shook her head, her eyes filled with a mixture of fear and gratitude. "No, just shaken up," she whispered, her voice barely above a whisper.
I nodded, understanding all too well the trauma she must be experiencing. "You're safe now, Jasnoor. I won't let anything happen to you," I vowed, my voice firm with determination.
As the hours passed, I tended to Jasnoor's needs, fetching her water and blankets, and ensuring she was comfortable. Though she insisted she was fine, I could see the lingering effects of the ordeal written across her face – the haunted look in her eyes, the tremor in her hands.
Sitting beside her on the couch, I wrapped an arm around her shoulders, pulling her close in a gesture of silent comfort. "You're not alone, Jasnoor. I'm here for you," I said softly, my voice a soothing balm in the midst of her turmoil.
And as the night stretched on, we talked – about anything and everything, from our hopes and dreams to the fears that still lingered in the shadows. With each word spoken, I felt our bond strengthen, the shared experience of survival weaving us together in ways I could never have imagined.
Eventually, exhaustion caught up with us both, and I led Jasnoor to the bedroom, tucking her into bed with a sense of protectiveness that bordered on ferocity. "Sleep now," I murmured, pressing a gentle kiss to her forehead. "I'll be right here if you need anything."
As she drifted off to sleep, her breathing steady and even, I lingered in the doorway, watching over her with a mixture of tenderness and fierce determination. No matter what challenges lay ahead, I would stand by her side, a guardian in the darkness, ready to fight for her safety and well-being until my last breath.
