"So, you never answered my first question," he grinned, waiting for my response,
"Why should I tell you who I am," I retorted, unsure of his reaction. He seemed taken aback, before mumbling something incoherent. He sucked in a deep breath before looking back at me with a large, but fake grin plastered on his face.
"Because..." suddenly his smile dropped "well actually I don't know why," he said sounding confused, "B...because I told you who I was!" he ended childishly, I could visualise him as a toddler stamping his foot, with his arms crossed and throwing a tantrum. Giggling at the likeliness I gave in, he didn't seem like a kidnapper anyway. He appeared to be offended at my reaction to his words, shock evident in his chocolate, brown eyes.
"My name's Winter Cooper," I replied, the smirk still playing on my face. His eyes lit up, showing that he had obviously falsely assumed that I had found his excuse satisfactory. "Who are you?"
"I told you I'm the Doctor," he repeated, I rolled my eyes, this 'doctor' man obviously hadn't deciphered my question as well as I'd assumed he would.
"Yeah, I'm not deaf, I heard that bit, but what kind of 'Doctor' are you? Medical, scientific..?" I trailed the end of my question awaiting his reply.
"A bit of everything really!" he chuckled revelling in my confusion once more.
"What? How can you be a bit of everything? You need years of training and experience to just be a medical doctor, let alone a scientific doctor as well! And you don't look much older than 35!" I said proud to have caught him out. Instead of the horror that I had predicted would be apparent on his face, I saw shock, he was clearly upset,
"35...35!" He yelled emphasising the number the second time. "This body is NOT 35...is it? No, it can't be, 35's a bit old. I was hoping for younger! When I walk down the street, is that what people see a 35 year old...better than a 900 year old I guess," he went off on a tangent getting quieter as he moved on, I could only just catch the last line, but wished that I hadn't as it only added to the growing list of questions that were now spouting freely from my brain. "Right, so...where'd you want to start?" his head snapped up, "Wait no, I've already done that bit, anymore questions?" he asked, the stupid smile back on his face, suddenly remembering that I was present as well.
"As a matter of fact, yes," I muttered glaring at the man. He looked at me expectantly, "Did you drug me?" I asked him deadly serious. His face suddenly started twitching as I continued to glare at him. Suddenly the twitching turned into uncontrollable laughter and he leaned on the chair clutching his chest with tears emitting from his eyes.
"Why would I drug you, wait, when could I have drugged you?" he breathed in between chuckles.
"Well," I stated, my tone making it sound like I had a long, developed answer prepared for him, "I don't know," I said suddenly confused as logic proved me wrong for the second time that day.
"Well there you are then, Anymore questions? No? Didn't think so!" he rushed, quickly sobering and not giving me the chance to reply.
"Actually I've got a whole truckload of questions stored up here," I said tapping my head.
"Questions are boring, they take you away from the fun, always ask questions when there's nothing else to do. Otherwise you'll never get round to enjoying life!" he said in a matter-of-fact tone, running up to a small screen placed in the middle of the room. "Oh, this is bad, no, no, no, this is so bad." He muttered his head in his hands, clearly in distress, the contrast between his previous mood, and now would've been hilarious, if I hadn't noticed, from the sudden tone change in his voice, how serious the situation was.
"What is it? Mr...Doctor...man? I'm going to stick with human at least I know that one's right," a sad smile played on his face, obviously finding my comment funny for some reason.
"It's Sontaran..." he said, annoyance radiating from every syllable he spoke. Pretending to understand what he said I replied sounding confident,
"Really? Sontaran! What are you going to do? That's bad, that's really bad and..." I stopped after noticing his humour-filled face staring at me. "What?" I said confused, I thought that I had played the role quite well, although he obviously didn't.
"You've got no clue what you're talking about do you?" he questioned, making me look guiltily at the floor. "It's alright you've cheered me up!" he assured me, making me less embarrassed.
“Ok…” I said, steering the conversation away from me, “What’s so bad about Sontarans. What are Sontarans?” I asked, watching him deliberate over his response.
“Sontarans are aliens,” he said slowly, watching my face for any emotion, but I strategically kept my face blank. “They are an intelligent race, and their greatest strength is their military advantage, they have a great weapon supply from their home planet Sontar, their main weakness is the probic vent at the back of their necks, the placement of the vent means that a Sontaran can never turn it’s back on their enemy. They are a clone race, meaning that they all look extremely similar, this also means that each child can have millions of siblings.” He stared at me, expecting me to bombard him with questions. But all I could do was stand there, shocked. “Winter, Winter!” He yelled, panicking and worried about my current state of mind.
“Yeah,” I replied still shocked, “Is everything wrong then, everything that I thought defined us as humans?” I asked.
“No, of course not,” he said kindly, “the human race just has to expand, find out more, you little people are only just taking the first step into acknowledging alien life! In the future you live with them, eat with them...”
“…mate with them?” I joked grinning, already cheered up. He grinned back, happy that I wasn’t upset or enraged by the new found discovery. “Wait, how do you know this?” I asked him, suspicion large and raw in my head.
“Because I’m an alien. This is my ship a TARDIS, type 40; she’s the last one in existence now. TARDIS stands for Time and relative Dimension in space.” I opened my mouth but he answered my question before me, “that means that this is a ship that can travel anywhere in time and space!” he said the childlike glee radiating from him once again. I smiled, after seeing the potato man, although I guess I had to call him a Sontaran now, I could believe anything.
“So, what are we going to do about the Sontaran,” I asked, wondering why we had left it for so long. His eyes widened in realization before his head darted down to look at the screen.
“Ok, the Sontaran is still outside,” he told me, I groaned, smirking at my reaction he continued, “There’s only one of them though, so the job shouldn’t be too hard!”
“We can’t kill him! I don’t want to be a murderer!” I yelled horrified at what I thought the doctor had suggested. He stared at me for a moment, his face a blank canvas, before walking over to me and smiling.
“I wouldn’t even dream about killing him unless it was absolutely necessary! We’ll give him the chance to leave, to get back on his ship and fly to Sontar, I always give them chances. If he declines that offer then whatever happens after is his own fault and not yours or mine,” he smiled before taking my hand and walking to the door. “Come on!” he said wiggling his eyebrows up and down.
“What about a plan, don’t we need one?” I asked shocked, surely he couldn’t think that we were just going to saunter straight outside and into the arms of the enemy?
“Nope, something always goes wrong when I have a plan!” He said, a full blown grin still residing on his face as I stared up at him in disbelief. Shaking my head in amazement and putting my full trust in him I opened the door.
