I woke up lying on the floor with a bunch of unknown people around me looking confused. I searched the room looking for Vessel but he wasn't there anymore.

"Ava, are you ok? What happened?" Jace came to my rescue, pushing through the crowd that looked at me like they had never seen a person fainting before.

"I think my blood sugar is low." This was the best lie I could come up with in this situation.

"Come, let's get you back to your room. I'll grab some extra food, you need to rest a bit."

It was a hard task making Jace leave me alone in my room after what just happened, but I promised him I was going to rest a bit before the next show. That finally made him leave. As I was washing my face, some strange idea crossed my mind.

"Vessel, can you hear me? I need to talk to you." I said out loud, noticing how stupid this was the moment I opened my mouth.

Knock knock knock. I jumped, rushing to open the door.

No. Fucking. Way.

He was there, leaning against the door frame.

"Invite me in."

I blinked my eyes fast hoping it would change what was in front of me. "Come in, please." Why did I invite him in? Did I not have any sense of self-preservation?

He was watching me with eyes of a predator as he moved towards the door. His right hand made a gentle gesture, pointing to the bed.

"Seat."

He was so... bossy. But I didn't have a choice but to obey. I had a 2m masked man in front of me and I needed answers. I was not going to let him go away with it this time.

"What are you doing to me?" I asked right away, the fear in my voice betraying my tough-girl attitude.

"Nothing you wouldn't like, Ava." He sounded cryptic.

"I don't like fainting in the middle of a hotel hall and waking up with a bunch of strangers looking at me. What did you do to me? Why did I faint? Why was everything moving in slow motion? Why-"

"You forgot to breathe. I have that effect on people sometimes." He smirked.

I got up, frustrated, and walked near him.

"Why do I feel so terrified and safe at the same time when I'm near you?"

"Because we are opposites. You bring salvation, I bring destruction. That makes you fear me. But deep down you know I won't harm you."

"Is this a joke? Are you trying to make fun of me because I'm the new girl?"

"Don't ever think that low of me again. I can't give you all the answers you want now. Suffice it to say I have waited for so long to find you. And now that you have let me in, I'm just a word away."

"What does that even mean?" I was getting angry at him so I jumped out of bed, getting near him. He avoided all my questions, giving me even more confusing answers.

"Whenever you need me, say my name and I'll appear."

"You're gonna teleport in front of me?" I joked as I uncrossed my arms, trying to remove the tension in this conversation.

"Something like that." He smiled, raising his hand to my face and making me notice he had beautiful hands. His index finger had a peculiar ring that looked ancient, probably a family heirloom. His veins were pulsing behind the black paint that covered his skin. "You will be mine, Ava." He said as he brushed his fingers through my face.

His touch was even more hypnotizing than his voice. I melted the second his skin touched mine. His skin was very warm and I could smell his scent which reminded me of a vineyard on a rainy day. I closed my eyes and felt electricity pass through my whole body, involving me in a trance. Suddenly, all my fear was gone and I knew I could trust this man with my life. It felt like our souls had known each other for hundreds of years.
