In front of me was a city- a city in ruins. Tall skyscrapers covered in dust and dirt and sand, structures crumbling, half destroyed fences and street signs, demolished streets, not a car in sight. In the moonlight, it was horrifying for me. Gray, however, continued walking nonchalantly, like this is normal for him.
"Where... where is everyone? Where is this?" I ask, completely flabbergasted. Gray shushes me and rolls his eyes, which I've noticed aren't very human looking. "A city. I don't know the name. Do you?" He spoke with his voice lowered to a whisper. I shake my head. I still can't remember a thing.
"Look, kid... ha. Why don't you tell me your name? I can't keep calling you kid."
I think for a moment. No matter how hard I try, I can't remember a single thing about myself, let alone what's around me.
"Um...I honestly don't know. Man." I've also lowered my voice to the same tone as his. I put my hand on my forehead, trying to drive away a headache.Gray leaned against the wall and looked me up and down, then saying, "You look like a Jason. Let's call you that, huh?"
I nodded. It didn't seem like a bad name.Gray glanced at the moon, then looked back at me.
"We only have a few hours to get moving. The sun'll be up soon, it's dangerous during the day." He sounded bored when he said this.So I followed him. I still looked around at all the wreckage around me. What on earth could have done this? A natural disaster? Maybe Gray would know…
"Hey, G-" Before I could finish saying his name, Gray clapped his hand over my mouth and pointed in the distance. I could barely see what was over there, but whatever it was clearly agitated Gray.
He then grabbed my wrist and led me inside one of the buildings, where we then both hid.
"Gray, what is it? What's so dangerous?" I asked, still whispering. He gave me a subtle glare before answering.
"Robots. There's two robots."
He looked distressed, occasionally glancing out the window.
"Shit. They're close. Stay quiet."As I sat against the wall, out of sight, I heard what was a quiet beep sound getting increasingly louder as the robots got closer. Though it was risky, I looked outside the window briefly to try and see what was out there.
Outside were two vaguely humanoid robots, wiring and metal and internal workings visible from beneath what I assumed was artificial skin… Yikes, these guys were roughed up. I'n not even going to begin to wonder what happened to them. But it seemed to really bother Gray. He looked like an angry cat.
I crouched back down to continue hiding, but my shoe made contact with a rock, making an almost silent "scratch" sound- almost silent to me, but just loud enough for the robots.
One of the robots immediately swiveled its barely attached head in my direction. Gray saw this, gave me a death glare, and put his hand over my mouth again. But it was too late, the robots were coming toward us. Before I knew it, Gray had grabbed my wrist and was already dragging me outside- to where the robots were.
Frantically, I shouted "Gray, where the hell are we going? This is where the robots are!"
He said nothing and continued running. From behind me, I heard one robot say in an autotuned voice "Targets located. One Brink, one Human."
