I have a presentation for the Winter Schools Program. My friends and I are excited and are practicing hard. Before I go on with this, let me introduce my friends to you, and then myself.
First, my best friend, Lina. She has been by my side for as long as I can remember. She's similar to me in many ways. We both love reading, singing, swimming and we're both in love with chocolate.
Then, there's Enid. Enid is a brainiac. Not that I'm not smart, but Enid was born for that title. Her strategies cannot be matched. She's a nerd, but the cool kind. And she's a great dancer too.
Jay is my boy-bestfriend. Being an Australian-American, he tends to have a weird behavior that matches his accent. Apart from his cute short temper and love for food, he's a great person who'll stand by your side.
And finally, me. My name is Heidi Black. I'm a pretty, smart and kind fourteen-year old. The only apparent child of...well, you'll see...Bells. Someone had rung the bells. They sounded quite creaky this morning, like they were tired of being rung everyday...
"Hey...", Lina tapped me awake. "Time for practice"
Sometimes, I go distant, away from what is in front of me. I daydream. And too much for my own good.
"I really don't understand why people participate in these kind of things"
Jay was the only one in our friend group who wasn't interested in the talent show. He wasn't shy, definitely not, but he just didn't like to be noticed.
"We just like to, duh". That was Enid. " I personally like to dance, and to join in events, and..."
"Yeah, whatever"
"Okay guys, time to go"
That was what I liked about Lina. She was a cool person, whether she agreed or not.
"Heidi?", Enid asked concernedly.
Lina and Jay turned to look at me. I was crying again. I was daydreaming, actually. I think too deeply, I start to cry. Once I start sobbing, I can't come out of it.
"Heidi, wake up!"
Only Lina knew this. She would try to snap me out of it as soon as it started.
"Wake up!"
"Girl, chill!". I had finally woken up. "I'm not dead or anything"
"I know, but you creep me out when you're like this"
"Well, at least you woke me. Now let's go!"
Lina and I were singing. Lina wrote a lot of songs, and she wanted others to hear them. So, I suggested we sing them at the show. Besides, we did have a good voice.
If only my mom and dad could come to see me...
