"You see, it's all about perspective. Monsters are simply in the eye of the beholder, dear."
Y/n apprehensively moved through the thicket of the forest, her eyes darting to and fro. The girl clutched her flashlight close to her person in fear of all that surrounded her. She was by no means prepared for this hunt; however, the promise of reward money was too much to pass up. Her memory worked violently against her, pushing intrusive thoughts into her mind. She knew she should not be here, but desperation and curiosity had gotten the best of her. The rumors floating around her small city had done nothing to curb the feeling either.
"You can't go in the woods after dark," they said. "That's when The Wild Things come out to play."
Strange sounds echoed from Y/n's left. It was unlike any animal she had heard in the forest during the day's she had been able to make the short drive up to the woods on the other side of town. She wanted to go during the night but she was too chicken to venture through the woods after dark. She had read too many horrible camping stories about campers being ripped apart by a strange creature no one could track. The Wild Thing had stumped even the most capable of hunters. The creature was smart. It knew better than to leave its tracks uncovered and it even went the extra mile and stayed hidden away when it rained and the ground turned mushy enough for a clear paw print.
Still, Y/n had done her research. Article after article, and eye witness after eye witness, she was certain she had all that she needed to find it. To collect the ever growing reward money accumulating on its head meant she would be able to move to a better part of town, pay for her dream college, and finally get her dream job. After all, finding an untraceable beast would look amazing on her resumé.
Quarter of a million dollars if the creature was caught alive was what she was striving for. If you brought it in dead, it was only half that amount. She had weapons but only the survival essentials: bear mace, a pocket knife, flares (just in case), and a gun she had splurged on just in case things went wrong. The little hand gun weighed heavily on her hip as she moved, ready to grab it in response to any sort of movement. She knew it would be better to get the Wild alive, but she also knew nothing else about the creature.
Eye witnesses said it was tall; other accounts claimed it walked on all fours and had short legs. Some people even said it had wings and a tail. Others said it wasn't a creature at all, but instead a maniac who enjoyed tearing people apart in the woods. You had a couple of reference photos on your phone from several eye witnesses. You looked at it and knew it couldn't be human right away, even tho the creature stood upright. It was tall, extremely so. It's dark body was thin but muscular. Thick corded muscle was protruding from otherwise hairless skin. It had some sort of matted main for hair that extended all the way past the creatures midsection. You could see why people thought it was human. That's the only real patch of hair it had, on its head. But all the rest was definitely not - Claws, the nub of a short tail, it's unusual height. Gauging from the photos taken it was at least 6'7. You almost wouldn't believe it, however, these were taken by different people on different days, some even years apart. It just made no sense. This creature didn't remotely resemble anything in nature. It looked more evil and demonic than another woodland creature. The fact we see the same one each time was even stranger. No one knew if there was more because this creature was the only one who appeared in any photos. The rest were too good at hiding. That meant one thing: it wanted to be known. It needed to be seen, felt by all who feared it.
The darkness amplified her terror. (Y/n) wanted desperately to just go back to her crappy little campsite she made and sleep the fear away, but she knew she only had the weekend to do something about this creature and get the reward. There were other hunters too. They operated in groups, so she was already at a disadvantage. No one she knew was dumb enough to follow her into the woods alone in search of a creature who's been ripping people open like a bag of chips.
