Maybe it's not my weekend
But it's gonna be my year
And i'm so sick of watching while the minutes pass as I go nowhere
And this is my reaction
To everything I fear
I hit the off button on my alarm and meander towards my dresser, I put on the usual tan khakis and black polo shirt with the starbucks logo on, my black converses and head down stairs for breakfast. I walk through the living room, to see my usual drunk dad, knocked out lying across the sofa. I go into the kitchen, grab a muffin and an apple and quickly eat it waiting for a text from Holly to say when she's on the bus. A few moments later my phone lights up and it's a text from Holly.
I get up and sneak out of the house, sometimes I even wonder if my dad knows I live here. He's always too drunk to realise, especially since my mum died a few years ago. He was totally out of it. I still love him dearly.
I continue walking towards the bus stop, once I arrive I wait for the 119 to arrive. After it arrives, I hop on and see Holly sitting on one of the seats, I go and sit next to her; pushing past the crowds of people on the bus.
We ring the bell signalling we get off, once the bus stops we get off and go into Starbucks, we both share the shift. I work because I never get given money from my Dad so I make my own and I didn't want to be alone so I asked Holly to join me.
I like working here, there's always music playing, there's the random conversations that some customers make about the weather and stuff. So it's nice, a lot better environment than at home. Also, we're across from the park so there's nice views.
After an hour, Holly and I decide to take a short break, we make ourselves some hot chocolate and take a seat, the place is a little quiet.
"So you want to go to the cinema after, Silver Linings Playbook's on?" Holly asks, she has this weird obsession with Bradley Cooper, he's old and the only thing good about him are his eyes.
"I can't I'm meeting up with Harry"
"Going on a date are we?" she teases.
"Shut up! No, it's for English. She's making us do this stupid project,"
"You like him though right?" she asks.
"No, I mean we use to be best friends but now he's crazy" I explain.
"I know, so what are you gonna do about it? Just gonna deal with him?"
"No idea, I just want to get the project done,"
"Oh come on, tell me that you don't find him a least bit attractive,"
"Yeah he's quite attractive but that personality of his ain't attractive,"
"I'd love to take a ride on him," she makes a perverted comment.
"Holly, shut up. You're too attatched to Jiiiiimmy," I sing. She rolls her eyes, "Whatever,"
I finish off my drink throw it on the table then go back behind the counter while Holly cleans up tables. Louis and Niall run into the shop out of breath, what are they doing here?
"You guys have got to see this" Louis exclaims, pointing to a large circle of people in the middle of the park.
They're surrounding two people, I drop my things, take off my mini apron and run out leaving Holly on her own. I push past the large groups of people trying to see who's fighting. I recognise one person immediately. Harry. The stupid bastard, what is he doing? He's fighting another guy from my school, Connor, who's smaller than him - even though he's the year above - Harry could kill him!
Everyone seems to be enjoying the fight, some people cheering Harry on, others cheering on Connor. I look around at the people around in the crowd until I hear one familiar voice shout.
"OOOOOH" Ashini shouts when Harry's fist makes hard contact with Connor's cheek.
"Ashini" I squeal, she rushes to me.
"What happened?" I ask her.
"Connor said some shit to piss Harry off, that's all I know," she answers.
I see Harry repetitively slamming his fist against Connor's body, Connor weakly trys to fight back but it's no use against Harry's strength. Both of them are smeared in blood, I can't take this anymore. I decide to pick up the courage and stop Harry.
As I briskly walk towards the two fighting in the middle. I grab Harry's arm and pull him away from Connor.
"What the hell are you doing?" Harry asks angrily.
"WHAT DOES IT LOOK LIKE I'M DOING, I'M STOPPING YOU FROM KILLING THIS KID," I shout.
I turn around to see Connor throwing a hooking punch towards me, I grab his arm twist it round and kick him onto the floor.
"Go home," I spit at Connor.
I take Harry's arm and attempt to walk through the large crowd of people, when no one moves I begin to loose my temper.
"MOVE OUT OF THE WAY" I yell.
Everyone obeys, moving out of the way as I quickly walk back to Starbucks. I put Harry into a chair round the back and grab the first aid kit, I grab a chair, sit infront of him beginning to clear up his blood stained face.
"What were you thinking fighting someone smaller than you?"
"He was rude,"
"That still gives you no right to-" I cut myself off, I put my hand on Harry's chin and lift it up clearing up his jaw line. I put one hand on one cheek as I wipe the blood away from the other.
"Where did you learn that?" Harry asks referring to my earlier actions towards Connor
"Learn what?" I ask.
"That move, the one where you twist his arm, how'd you do that?" He asks.
"You need to rest, stay here until my shift is over, we'll walk to the library," I avoided the question.
I've had serious anger problems since my mum died. I've had to go to anger management classes and they suggested the only way to control my anger was by boxing, I've boxed ever since but I've recently quitted.
"Why?" Harry asks
"What?"
"Why did you care whether I fight or not?"
"Who said I cared?"
"why else would you step in and stop it?"
I stay silent.
"Well?"
"I don't it's just-"
"My mum told you to didn't she" I don't respond but he knows the answer, Harry shakes his head. He takes both my hands and wraps them around his back moving me in closer to him. I'm inches away from his face.
"What are you doing?" I ask trying to move away from him but his grip is too strong. I finally break free and move myself away from him.
"Stay here for another half an hour, i'll be finished then," I instruct.
"Aye Aye Captain," Harry mumbles, "Wait, can you get me a drink of hot chocolate?"
"You need to pay me," I leave the room, bringing him a cup of hot chocolate when I came back.
"3 bucks," I demand.
"Here's a tenner, for earlier" He winks handing me the money.
I roll my eyes at him, never have I rolled my eyes this much at anyone. He's such a little prick but I can't say that he's not attractive.
