I've given up on the brain rot language; it's 5 am I am not bothered

Diya's POV

I wake up to the sound of 'Rizzler' by Jelly House. It's set as my alarm, I love the song so much, I want to marry it. I dance to the alarm for a few seconds in bed before reaching over to silence it. As I groggily silence the alarm, the events of yesterday evening flood into my mind. The fire, the river bank, the Mario Kart—all with Jake.

Just as I'm reminiscing about the memory, a sudden realisation hits me like a ton of bricks. Family meetup. I groan and bury my face in my pillow. I completely forgot that my entire family, my grandparents, aunts, uncles, and all of my cousins are gathering at my house today.

I drag myself out of bed and crawl to the bathroom. As I brush my teeth, I feel the dread. I love my family; don't get me wrong, but every time we have these meetups, everyone has so many questions and there's always some drama brewing. And all I want to do is hang out with Jake. I sigh, rinse my mouth, splash water on my face, and start heading to the kitchen. Maybe I can sneak out later if I can get past all my cousins.

There is already so much activity in the house when I make my way downstairs. My mum is in the kitchen preparing food while my dad is cleaning up the place. My brother is probably still asleep.

"Good morning, Diya," my mum says as she sees me walk in. "Help me with all this food, will you?"

I join her at the counter, combating the lingering sleepiness. As I start folding samosas, I hear the front door open and the sound of my grandparents' voices. I start thinking of places to hide until they walk into the kitchen area.

"Ah, there's our little 2-year-old skibidi Diya!" my grandma exclaims as she walks in. "You've grown so much. You know, I used to change your diaper when you were this small." She holds out her hands and spaces them around 10 centimetres apart.

One by one, the rest of my family walks in. My cousins immediately run to the backyard and start playing a game of tips, while my uncles gather around the TV to watch a match, and all the females are gathered in the kitchen, half of them cooking and the other half gossiping. I zone out and start thinking about how I wish I were with Jake right now.

After what felt like hours of small talk and dodging questions about my life from my aunts, I finally found a moment to sneak to my room. I pull out my phone and see a message from an hour ago, and it's from Jake.

Jake
"Yo, wanna hang out soon?"

My heart skips a beat. I quickly type back a response.

Diya
"I wish. I'm stuck at a family meetup rn. Maybe in the evening tho."

Jake
"Yeah that's fine, my parents just randomly decided to take me to the doctor, lol."

Diya
"HUH"

Jake
"It's nothing; I'm fine."

I let out a sigh of relief. At least he's okay. I explained to him that I should probably get back to the meetup before everyone started questioning where I went.

The rest of the day passes as a blur. We played board games, talked about the latest family news, and ate a lot of food. The day was actually kinda fun, despite my initial reluctance.

As the sun starts to set and my family starts slowly leaving to go home, I see this as a chance to slip away. I send Jake a quick message, letting him know that I'm finally free, and head out to the backyard for some fresh air as I await his response. It doesn't take long until I hear his Bugatti pulling up. I grin, make my way to his car and hop in. He reverses, and we're set on another adventure.
