Diya's POV
The warmth of the morning sun filters through my window, waking me up gently. I stretch and yawn, surprisingly feeling refreshed. The thought of spending time with Jake again lifts my spirits. I quickly grab my phone and shoot him a message.
Diya
"yo, wanna hang out today?"I get out of bed and start getting ready for the day, waiting excitedly for Jake's reply. Just as I'm about to head downstairs for breakfast, my phone buzzes.
Jake
"Yo I wish I could but I have to go to the doctor today. Can't make it my g."I frown, a pang of disappointment hitting me. He's been going to the doctor a lot recently, I think to myself.
Diya
"No worries, hope everything is okay"Jake
"Yeah, it's all good. We'll hang out soon."Diya
"Fo sho."I leave my phone in my bedroom and head downstairs for breakfast, despite my appetite being nonexistent. Jake would tell me if something was wrong, right? For now, I just need to focus on my day.
Time skip: Two days later
My phone buzzes. It's Jake. i quickly open it, eager to see what he has to say.
Jake
"Hey, are you free today?"Diya
"Absolutely! What did you have in mind?"Jake
"Meet at the funfair in an hour?"Diya
"Aight bet."Excitement bubbles up inside of me. After not seeing him for eight days and not talking to him for two, a funfair sounds exactly like what we need. I quickly get ready and make my way to the funfair. The vibrant colours and joyful sounds greet me as I arrive. I spot Jake near the entrance, his face lighting up as he sees me.
"Hi Diya!" he calls out, waving. I ran to him as I replied, "Hey Jake! This place looks amazing!"
"Yeah, I thought it would be a nice change of pace," he says with a grin.
We start our adventure with the classic (rigged) carnival games. Jake insists on winning me one of the giant stuffed animals, and after several failed attempts at the ring toss, he finally somehow succeeds. I laugh as he hands me the oversized bear, his face beaming with pride.
Next, we decide to check out the rides. The Ferris wheel had breathtaking views of the entire fair, and as we reach the top, I feel this sense of calm wash over me. Jake points out the different attractions below.
"Look at that rollercoaster," he says, pointing to a massive structure with loops and twists. "We have to try that next."
I nod eagerly. "Perhaps, but first we need sum cotton candy."
We make our way to the cotton candy stand, and we both get a fluffy pink cloud of sweetness. We eat it as we wander through the fair, stopping throughout to watch street performers and musicians.
We eventually find ourselves at the funhouse. The maze of mirrors and obstacles has us in hysteria, and at one point, Jake gets stuck in a revolving door. "Help me out of here!" he says, his voice completely muffled by the glass.
As the sun begins to set, we decide to try our luck at the fortune teller's tent. The mysterious woman inside reads our palms and offers cryptic advice, leaving us both intrigued and a little spooked.
"Do you think any of that is real?" I ask as we leave the tent.
Jake shrugs. "Who knows? It's all part of the fun, right?"
"Right."
We end the evening with a ride on the carousel, with the gentle music and twinkling lights creating a magical atmosphere. As we ride, I can't help but feel grateful for moments like these. Despite everything, Jake always knows how to make me smile.
As the ride comes to an end, Jake turns to me. "Thanks for coming here with me today."
We walk back to the entrance and the sounds of the funfair fade behind us. As we part ways, I can't shake the feeling that something is weighing on Jake's mind. I do hope he is okay, despite the mask of emotions he put on today.
