As I stepped into my office today, the atmosphere felt heavy with tension. I was immediately informed of an upcoming meeting with the insufferable Lockharts. I loathed both Dave and Laura. Laura, in particular, always acted flirtatiously around me, seemingly oblivious to my clear disdain. And Dave was just as intolerable. They were here to discuss the matter of their debt cancellation.

The entire fiasco had begun when they borrowed a significant amount from my company. Now they expected me to forgive the debt, despite our contract stipulating that forgiveness could only be granted in exchange for their company or some other substantial asset. I was in no mood for leniency, but Gareth had suggested I consider acquiring their company instead. After some deliberation, I reluctantly agreed to their invitation to discuss it at their home after lunch.

Upon arriving at their house, I caught sight of Dave calling someone over. As I stepped out of the car, I was captivated by a girl—not just any girl, but the most unique one I had ever encountered. She had wavy brown hair that shimmered in the light and large, chocolate-brown eyes that seemed to hold a world of secrets. Her lashes curled naturally, framing a button-like nose, and those pink, plump lips were... What the hell was I thinking? I had never felt this way about a woman before. Get a grip, Tyler; you're here for business.

Our eyes locked, and I felt a strange pull toward her. I could have stared into those chocolate-brown orbs forever, but she quickly averted her gaze and fled inside, leaving me standing there in a haze of confusion and desire.

Once inside, I took a seat on one of the plush couches, trying to focus on the meeting. Dave droned on about something I couldn't care less about, while my thoughts wandered back to that girl. I met countless business associates daily, but she stirred something within me that I couldn't quite understand. What was happening to me? I wasn't the type to be swayed by emotions.

Just as I was scanning the room for her, someone entered with refreshments, but it wasn't her. It was Laura, her face plastered with an annoying smirk as she set the tray down. Her flirty glances were insufferable, and I couldn't help but wish I could punch her smug face.

"Laura, where's Amelia?" Dave asked, glancing around.

"Oh, she had some work to do, so she went upstairs," Laura replied, shrugging nonchalantly.

I didn't care to hear more; I needed to escape this wretched company. Before Laura could say anything else, I cut in. "Where are the guest bathrooms? I need to freshen up."

"Upstairs, second door on the right," she replied.

I nodded and ascended the stairs, my heart racing for reasons I couldn't comprehend.

As I approached the door, I heard water running. I hesitated, then opened the door to find her—the girl with the mesmerizing eyes. She was washing something with her back turned to me, unaware of my presence. I stepped closer, and she turned to look at me. Our eyes met again, and time seemed to freeze. But this time, I saw something else in her gaze—fear, and perhaps pain.
