Tyler Harrington
After Garry's so-called surprise dinner, Amelia and I were heading home when I noticed her struggling to keep her eyes open. She looked exhausted, and within minutes, she had fallen asleep, her head leaning slightly against the window. I couldn't help but smile as I watched her, completely peaceful, with her soft breathing syncing to the rhythm of the car.
When we arrived, I gently called her name, but she didn't stir. Instead of waking her, I decided to carry her inside. She looked so serene, so vulnerable. Her cheek rested against my chest, and I felt a strange warmth in my heart. For a moment, she shifted in my arms, her eyelids fluttering like she was trying to wake up, but she fell back into her deep sleep.
I carried her into her room and carefully laid her down on the bed, brushing a strand of hair from her face. She looked like so naive as I whispered, "Goodnight, Amelia," and pressed a soft kiss to her forehead.
The feel of her skin lingered as I left her room, closing the door behind me. I couldn't go to bed just yet; my mind was racing. I needed air, so I headed to the rooftop. The cool night breeze hit me as I climbed the stairs, instantly calming my racing thoughts. The rooftop was my sanctuary. With a swimming pool glistening in the moonlight, it was the perfect place for reflection.
When I got there, I found Garry lounging by the pool, a cigar in hand, as if he'd been waiting for me. I joined him, lighting one of my own. The silence between us was comfortable, but I broke it after a few moments, patting him on the back.
"Thanks for tonight, Garry. It was... nice," I said, taking a drag from my cigar.
Garry's eyes widened dramatically, and he placed his hand on his chest as if I'd just shocked him. "Oh my God! My brother, Tyler Harrington, who barely cares about anyone, just said 'thanks.' What has this world come to?" he teased, then leaned in with a sly smile. "Amelia sure is changing you."
I couldn't help but chuckle at his antics, though the mention of her name made me smile without thinking. He was right—Amelia had been on my mind constantly, and she was starting to have a strange effect on me.
"You're even smiling now!" Garry exclaimed, his eyes full of amusement. "Man, she's got you wrapped around her finger already. But you're welcome," he added, giving me a genuine smile.
"I am not wrapped around her finger," I argued, though the blush on my face betrayed me.
We both laughed, but Garry quickly shifted gears. "On a serious note, though, did you enjoy the dinner?"
I nodded, recalling the evening. "Yeah, we did. She wasn't as scared anymore, just a little hesitant at the beginning. By the end, she seemed... comfortable."
