Luis approached me with a grin that exuded confidence, a glint of manipulation in his eyes. "How are you feeling today, Veronica?" he asked, his tone dripping with false concern.
I met his gaze with a calm expression, refusing to give away any hint of vulnerability. "Buena," I replied, my voice steady.
(Good)
Luis circled me slowly, his movements deliberate. "Just good?" he probed, his voice laced with subtle manipulation. I maintained my composure, giving him a small nod. "Definitely ," I affirmed.
He paused in front of me, his eyes scanning my face. "That's what I like to hear," he said, a smirk playing on his lips. "But remember, Veronica, there's always room for improvement."
I nodded again, playing along with his game. "Of course," I agreed, knowing exactly what he wanted to hear.
Luis's smirk widened, pleased with my response. "Good," he said. "Now, let's focus on today's tasks." He nodded toward the door, and I followed him without hesitation. Luis swiped his keycard to open it, gesturing for me to enter first with a smirk. "Ladies first," he said, his tone dripping with a hint of condescension.
I walked into the room confidently, knowing he was watching my every move. He followed behind me, closing the door with a deliberate click. The sound echoed in the room, emphasising our isolation.
I turned to face him, meeting his gaze head-on. There was a palpable tension in the air, a silent acknowledgment of the power dynamic between us. But I refused to let it unnerve me. Luis's smirk widened as he observed my reaction. "Ready for today's challenges?" he asked, his tone casual.
I nodded, not allowing his smugness to affect me. "Absolutely," I replied, my voice steady.
He chuckled, clearly pleased with himself. "Good," he said, his eyes gleaming with anticipation. "Let's see what you're made of."
I nodded and lay down on the hospital bed, already anticipating what was to come - another session in the simulation. It had become routine, almost mundane, yet I didn't complain. After all, it had made certain things easier, like the task I was about to undertake.
Closing my eyes, I braced myself for the familiar sensation of being plunged into the artificial world Luis had created. It was strange how accustomed I had become to the violence, the bloodshed, the betrayal. Killing my friends had once been unthinkable, but now it was just another part of the game.
I wasn't under the simulation every day like I had been in the past. Now, it was only twice a week, a testament to the progress I had made. Luis had trained me well, honing my skills to perfection.
