NICO DRIVES THE car faster and faster, the engine roaring as we race through the night, the urgency of our mission driving us forward. Meanwhile, Miguel sits in the passenger seat, his eyes glued to his laptop screen, constantly updating and checking Veronica's location. It seems that the Morrotos inadvertently gave away her whereabouts during their last communication.
"Got it," Miguel says, his voice tense with concentration as he pinpoints Veronica's location on the map. "She's in a high tech and guarded warehouse on the outskirts of town."
Nico nods grimly, his grip tightening on the steering wheel. "Hang in there, Veronica," I mutter under my breath, my eyes flashing with determination.
The Team decided to split up into separate cars to make our approach less obvious. Miguel, Nico, and I piled into one car, while Felix and Kai took the other. As we drove towards the heavily guarded warehouse, the tension in the air was palpable, each of us lost in our own thoughts. Miguel focused on tracking Veronica's location, while Nico steered the car with precision, his jaw set in determination.
In our car, the silence was broken only by the occasional updates from Miguel as he monitored Veronica's signal. I gripped the handle above the door tightly, my heart pounding with anticipation. We were getting closer, and every passing moment felt like an eternity.
In the car behind, Felix, Kai and Gianna exchanged a few words in hushed tones, their eyes scanning the road ahead for any signs of trouble. They shared a silent understanding, each knowing their role in the upcoming rescue mission.
We speed through the empty streets, the city lights blurring into streaks as we race towards our destination. The warehouse looms ahead, a dark silhouette against the night sky, and I can feel the tension mounting in the air.
"Take this," Miguel says, tossing a walkie-talkie at me, and I catch it swiftly, the device fitting snugly in my hand. I give him a nod of acknowledgment, my grip tightening around the walkie-talkie's rubberized casing. With a quick glance at Nico, who nods in return, I understand that we're now connected and ready to communicate silently during the operation.
"Thanks," I reply quietly, my voice barely above a whisper. Miguel gives me a reassuring nod before turning his attention back to tracking Veronica's location on his laptop.
Felix and Kai's car speeds beside us, and I turn my head to look out the window to see them both grinning at me. I return the grin, a surge of camaraderie coursing through me. With a nod, I turn the walkie-talkie on, the soft crackle of static filling the air. Kai continues to drive swiftly, his eyes focused on the road ahead, while Felix copies my action, turning his walkie-talkie on as well.
"Ready to do this?" I speak into the walkie-talkie, my voice low but steady, carrying through the device to Felix and Kai's car.
"Born ready," Felix's voice crackles through the walkie-talkie, his confidence evident even through the static.
