WITH MY RIGHT hand, I rub my chin, staring at the computer screen. My rum business has been booming lately, profits through the roof. The charts and graphs on the screen show a steady climb, indicating a successful expansion into new markets.
Just as I'm about to delve deeper into the financial reports, a knock interrupts my concentration. I lean back in my chair, sighing softly before gesturing for the visitor to enter.
The door opens, and one of my trusted associates steps in, a respectful nod accompanying his entrance. "Capo," he begins, his tone respectful but urgent, "there's news about Veronica."I raise an eyebrow, my interest piqued. "What about her?" I ask, my voice calm but tinged with curiosity.
The associate clears his throat, gathering his thoughts before continuing "Veronica was found. She's back home," he says, relief evident in his voice.I immediately stand up, a surge of relief flooding through me. After two fucking years, she's back home."Finally," I mutter, a mixture of emotions swirling inside me. Relief, and happiness. My daughter was finally found, and I will not stand aside and let her hate me or the boys forever, well at least not without trying.
I nod. "Thank you. Send the boys in," I order. He nods and leaves the room, shutting the door behind him. With a deep breath, I take a moment to gather my thoughts. As I wait for the boys to arrive, I mentally prepare myself for the tasks ahead. This is just the beginning of a new chapter, and I intend to make it count.
My heart races with anticipation and relief. After two agonising years of uncertainty and fear, my daughter, Veronica, is finally back. She was kidnapped by the Morroto's, and her absence has haunted me every day since.
The weight of all the lost years presses heavily on my shoulders. I've missed even more birthdays, milestones, and countless moments that I can never get back. But now, with Veronica's return, I'm determined to make amends.I look up, hearing the door opening, and the boys walk in, their expressions a mix of obedience and confusion.
"Hey," I say, trying to keep my voice steady. "I need to talk to you all."They exchange glances, their curiosity piqued by the serious tone of my voice. "Veronica's back," I continue, watching as their eyes widen in surprise.
"She's finally back home after two long years."Relief floods their expressions, but it's tempered by the uncertainty of what comes next. "Can we see her?" Enzo asks eagerly, his voice hushed with anticipation.
I sigh before replying.
