Chapter 7: Unfortunate Circumstances

Seungcheol's POV

A few days have gone by since Jeonghan's arrival. I've been trying my best to enter the zone so that I can finally unlock the ability of my artefact.

I still haven't unlocked it yet but I still have faith. Jeonghan and Joshua are currently on a seemingly dangerous mission. The rest of his friends also seemed to be busy with their own things. I decided to head downtown to meet up with my friends.

Downtown is quite lively as always. Many people just trying to get by and enjoying living in the moment, not a single worry seeping through. Groups of friends laughing and single adults sipping through their loneliness during the day. I'm not gonna lie, I'm glad I'm not there anymore...

Before I can take in even more of my environment, someone bumps into me. "Ow! Ah... sorry, my bad!" The guys exclaims. I help him up, "Are you alright?" I ask out of concern. "Yes, I'm fine, thank you! Sorry for bumping into you!" He bows profusely and apologetically. He's a bit cute.

"It's alright, no need to worry. Are you in a rush?" He looks at me almost confused. "You were running, weren't you? So I thought maybe..." He cuts me off before I could even finish, "Oh right! I was just running cuz why not? Hehe!" He giggles innocently. I sweat-pan. That's it?

"Yeah... I'm not really busy per se, I was just going by excitedly!" I examine the boy before me. He seems young and his eyes reflect an innocent gaze but I can't help but feel like there's more.

"By the way, my name is Seokmin! Nice to meet you." He says enthusiastically. "Nice to meet you too, I'm Seungcheol." I respond, "Are you from here?" Seokmin shakes his head. "No, I actually came to this town not too long ago."

"I see... So, are you just visiting?"

"I guess you could say that! This is just for work purposes, I suppose."

"You 'suppose'...?"

Seokmin pauses as though he's realised he's said something he wasn't supposed to, "Ah... never mind." He mutters, "I must just be here... it's just that there's something only I can do."

"Then I guess it's not really something that's easy for you to talk about..." I mutter to myself. "Sadly, yes..." He suddenly looks at the ground beneath us, downtrodden. He lets out a sigh, "I truly do wish there was someone I could share this with... however," his sadness is very evident in his now shrunken voice as he continues, "I believe it's a burden that I must carry myself or else someone will get hurt because of me..."

My heart is breaking. Who hurt this boy? Why does he have to feel this way? He needs and deserves an outlet. I just can't help but feel compelled to be there for him. He seems like such a sweet guy too.

I take a deep breath and ask, "Can I be your friend?" I hope that wasn't too direct... but honestly, is there any better way?

Silence befalls us for a few seconds as I await his response. "Sure! I never thought I'd make a friend so quickly, hehe." He's too pure. I can't help but smile and laugh with him.

"I hope our friendship lasts..." He mutters as though to himself. "I'm sure it will!" I enthuse in order to cheer him up. He smiles innocently. I can see the hope in his eyes.

Before I know it, our moment gets cut short a man approaching us. He's quite tall and casually dressed, with a seemingly warm outward appearance.

"Seokmin." he utters. Seokmin suddenly rises as though he was commanded and bows before the man. He then turns to me with a sweet smile, "I'm sorry Seungcheol, I have to get going. We'll meet again, okay?" I glance at the man before us. He slightly glares at me. Something's off here. But before I could examine any further, they both leave.
