His touch made my skin tingle as he gently pressed his fingers to my neck. Tracing along the scars that had healed.
"I'm here," I said again as I carefully pressed my hand over his and let him feel the thrumming of my heartbeat.
He can't see that I'm crying as he smiles.
"You come to see me so late at night? What are you Romeo now?" He joked, his voice still sounding a bit raspy.
"You don't mind being Juliette?"
He kept his hand placed over my scar and cupped my face with the other one. Bringing me closer to him as he pressed a kissed close to my lips. "Just don't die on me." He felt tired, I could see that in the way his fingers trembled and in the way he was leaning to one side.
"I think I'm drunk right now," he admitted with a giggle.
"Why is that?" I asked, getting him to sit down back on his bed. I don't think he even noticed it.
He looked forward even though I sat down next to him. He took a long moment of silence before speaking. "I can't feel my legs. It's like my brain is coming in and out of some fog." He smiled at nothing in particular. "I through a tray at my uncle."
"Do you feel hurt anywhere?" I asked and he turned to look at me.
"You wanna—" his eyebrows furrrowed as he took a second to think. He turned back to look towards the window I came from. "I don't want to."
"What?" I asked, realizing that I need to stop.
He looked down at his shaking hands. "I don't know."
I feel like I'm watching something from a screen. Like the motions of this world are just a second to blurry. He should be resting right now.
"Let's go to bed," I offered.
He hummed in agreement but I could tell he was to out of it to understand what I said. I helped him get back under the blanket and stood back up. He turned away and I couldn't tell if he was trying to say something or sleep.
"It's empty."
I opened the window as he seemed to filter through the haze he was in for short moment.
"I couldn't see you?"
I don't know what to say right now.
He doesn't know yet.
I don't think he can until he's feeling better.
"I love you."
He turned again realizing he was facing the wrong way. His smile made my heart break. "I love you too," he whispered.
Today felt stagnant. Tide is feeling better now that the fever was gone and he decided he wanted to stay in the makeshift hospital with me as I took care of what refugees needed help.
I was able to keep myself from getting dirty like I usually did. Today is supposed to be the day when the council gives me the ship I need.
I'm so stupid. Why did I think threatening them would be a good idea?
"Everything ok?" Jules asked.
"Just fine, got some thing on my mind is all." I made my way out of the room once I finished what I wanted to do.
Is it possible to fly home? What if I brought the captains ship back with me? She could then take what survivors we have right now with me.
I left Tide at the tree house with some of the group for the day. Hiding my crowns in my room I went out.
Theres nothing left for me to do is there?
Ny flew me to the councils garden building. I picked some flowers only to throw them away. It would be dumb to bring the to Laurent since the doctors would realize I could visit him.
"Hey!"
I quickly turned, trying to get away as the Vildrid scoundrel came over. "Hi," I smiled as he caught up to me.
He looked a bit surprised to see me in the gardens. "Did you come here beacuse of the news? Where are you guards?"
"What news?"
"The kingdom of Ezroth sent a message letting us know there sending an ambassador here. Where are your guards?" He asked again.
"You didnt bring any with you either so stop asking. Why does the new matter?" I asked feeling annoyed at his concern over guards.
He smirked, realizing he knew something I didn't. "The kingdom hasn't ever talked with the rest of us ever since they put up the boarder walls between them and this land."
"Again, why should I care?"
"Their only coming here for you idiot."
I shook my head. I'm not meeting any strange people from some far away land that no ones talked with for years. Not doing that.
He was interrupted by Asshure as the man barked over to were we stood. "So you finally decided to come here?"
Was he expecting me?
"What do you want form me?" I asked before glancing at the guy next to me, wondering if he was going to leave.
"You defended a ship, congratulations you now own one. When are you leaving?" He asked in rush.
I couldn't replicate the smile he had on. Proud and excited. "Are all the provisions also included?"
He nodded. "Everything's accounted for with extra to spare."
"I'll need a crew and captain-"
"All done."
"Medical supplies?"
"Taken care of."
"Why are you trying to get her to leave so soon?" The Vildrid boy interrupted. "You do realize what impression you are leaving on the queen of Phienix Drop."
I didnt like that what was happening was being called out. It's not like it's going to change anything once I'm alone with Asshure again.
"My apologies. May we talk in private?"
I nodded. Already anticipating that this was going happen. "I'll see you later." I waved to the guy and followed Asshure.
"My names Derek," he shouted as I entered one of the garden buildings.
Doyle was selected to be the messenger. he would ride on Ny and bring Leo and Ronin my letter warning them to get ready for us to come.
I crushed the paper and let it fall onto the floor. It was my idea to let someone go to Phoenix drop to deliver a message. Why am I only now stressing about what to write to Leo?
Do I just keep things formal? It's been months since I've seen them. What if there ad at me?
"Ronin wouldn't care," I groaned to myself. "He'll just be glad to know I'm coming back soon."
I packed my bag wine of the paper and a pen. Deciding to go check on Laurent and just write the letter there.
He was asleep as I and my way to his window. I sat down next to his bed and settled on writing on the floor. It took me half an hour to compile a letter with some instructions on how to get ready for when we come.
I folded the paper and pulled everything back into my bag. Glancing at Laurent as he layed still on his back. An iv was connected to his wrist and his eyes were still covered by the bandages.
It would be better to stay here until he gets better. I could send the others off and stay here. Ny could fly us both back.
The door opened to my surprise. Zinas eyes widened as she quickly hid her hands behind her back.
"What are you doing here?" We both asked at the same time.
I stepped closer to her as I repeated myself in a quite tone. "Why are you in his room at a time like this?"
"I was assigned to give him his pain medication."
"By who?"
"Why does this matter to you? What are you doing in his room? You aren't allowed in here while he's in this condition." She pushed past me in an annoyed manner and made her way to Laurent.
My hand reached out before I even thought twice about my actions. I grabbed the syringe before she put anything into the Iv. "What kind of medication is this?"
"Give that back," she ordered.
"Not until you tell me," I whispered.
She tried to take it from me.
"I'll call a doctor and ask about this. I'm not trusting you f or a second with this." I made my way to the door but she blocked it. A look of fear and anger playing in her eyes.
It felt strange the second she tried to hide whatever this is when she saw me. I can't expect her to be telling me the truth about anything. Why would she try to hide normal pain medication? I pressed my thumb on the end of the syringe and hid it from her few.
She looked scared, contemplating what to do. "Just give it back." I shook my head as she came closer to me. Trying to warn her to stay were she was.
She didnt get the hint. She yanked my arm and I jabbed the syringe into her abdomen. Pushing everything inside of it into her bloodstream as she bit down on my arm with a yell.
"What did you just do?" She stammered to the floor as I threw the empty needle away.
"I decided to see what this medicine does first hand."
