The reason why Vvilks are called Vvilks is because the country of Lech was mostly affected by the Virus on the outskirts of its borders. Because the population of Lech was seldom attacked by the Vvilks, paradoxically much of the writing about the epidemic was well preserved as was the name of those affected by the virus by the monks isolated in the monasteries of that region. Our word for Vvilks stemming from the Lech word for wolf, being wilczy (plural) or wilk (singular), as the monks had observed when vainly attempting to treat some of the infected, noted that the behavior displayed by the victims of the virus was not at all unlike that of rabid dogs or wolves.
It was thanks to these monks that many of the techniques on how to treat the virus and how to prevent oneself from being infected were preserved for the benefit of future generations. It is also thanks to these monks that we have some idea as to what conditions led to the emergence of the virus along with a record of the early symptoms of the most archaic variant of the virus, which has symptoms relatively similar to the variants of the virus still present to this day. The majority of the sources cited in this manual for the earliest accounts of the virus actually came from many of these isolated monasteries, particularly the ones on Lech's borders.
No one knows exactly why Lech was able to avoid the pandemic. There are a multitude of theories and factors that may have contributed to the country's immunity, such as ritual washing techniques brought to Lech by religious groups seeking protection from other nations trying to exterminate them out of a belief they were the ones that created the virus through witchcraft, or possibly the large number of individuals in the land with O type blood had immune systems better able to deter the virus. It's also possible that the monks, having attempted to heal those afflicted with the virus, were well aware of the virus's warning signs, educated the populace on how to protect themselves from the ire of the disease.
Still. There is a lot of conjecture amongst historians to this day as to why Lech was seemingly immune to the virus when so many countries were terrorized by it.
