Chapter 3
Mason's P.O.V.
One week later
"Prescott! Get your ass together and play football!" Coach Elvis yells at me. I can't. Not until Valerie has called me back. It has been a week, since we talked together and that night was the last time I heard her voice.
Just the thought of something happening to her, gets me angry. And right now, I can't focus on playing football when all I can think about is two things. My little sister who might have happened something to or she just ignores my calls and Paige Stanton. I can not get her out of my head.
These past few days we have talked a lot. Mostly because I found out where she works and now I go there whenever I can. And I can tell she thinks it's annoying, but I don't care. I gotta see her at least twice a week.
I don't know what the hell has happened to me, but somehow Paige has gotten a soft place in my heart and I don't even know that much about her. Only that her name is Paige Stanton, she is 20 years old and she works at Shaky Shack. And that she might or might not have dated a guy who was not really into girls. But still she managed to take place in my heart.
And I can tell she doesn't like it. It's funny cause every other girl would kill to have the chance to be in my heart, but Paige does everything so I start to hater her. Like this wednesday, she accidentally fell and the coffee spilled on my shirt. She didn't even try not to smile or say sorry. But that didn't work. I want to get to know her and I will.
When the training is over, Jake and Connor (Connor is also my best friend, me, Jake and him has been together since high school) come over to me. "What is going on, man? You played like shit today," Jake says. Jake is the team captain, so when someone is down or acting weird at training he always talks with them.
"Valerie hasn't answered my calls, since at that party," I say.
Jake and Connor both frown. "What do you mean she hasn't answered your calls?" Connor asks me concerned.
"That she doesn't pick the phone up," I snarl.
"Hey hey, relax," Jake says turning around to face Connor. "Have you talked to Viktoria?" He asks him. Viktoria and Connor are together and Vik is Valerie's best friend.
He shrugs. "Yeah, a little, but she is kind of off when we talk. Doesn't say too much. Maybe they're just tired."
Before I can say it, Jake says it. "Can you call her?"
We get to the changing room and sits down on the benches. Connor takes his phone and calls her. He put it on the speaker so we all three an hear it. When she takes it I hear a sigh of relief escape Jakes mouth. But I am still all tensed up.
"Hey, baby," Viktoria says from the other line sounding tired.
"Hey, babe. Are Valerie there with you?" He asks her.
It takes a secounds for her to answer and I feel Jake tense. "Hey, Vik, we really gotta talk with her. Is she there?"
"Uhm, yeah she is. But uhm she doesn't feel so good and doesn't want to talk with you guys. I'm sorry."
And thats when i get mad. "She doesn't wanna talk with us? Give her the phone, Vik. Now." I demand.
She sighs in defeat. "Alright, just a secound."
We hear voices from the other line and then I hear her voice and relax for the first time this week. "Hey," her voice is hoarse.
I take the phone out of Connors hand. "Hey, sis."
"I'm sorry I haven't answered the phone lately, I have just been sick." She says. I don't know why, but I don't believe her but let it pass. She does sound sick.
"God, next time, then just answer and say hey and then hang up. I don't care, just answer," I snarl.
"Alright, alright," she says sounding apolegetic.
"Hey, Valerie..." Jake starts talking but she cut him off.
"I am so sorry but I can't talk anymore," she says and hangs up.
Jake frown but doesn't say anything. We get dressed back to our normal clothes and we decide to get some food.
When we arrive at Shaky Shack I see her standing behind the cash register looking beautiful as always. I go to her. "Hey," I say smiling.
She doesn't smile back. "What are you doing here? I told you not to come here anymore. At least not when I am working."
"I'm sorry, baby." I point to the guys who sit down at a table by the window. "We were hungry."
She squint her eyes at the nickname but doesn't comment on it. "Alright, what do you want?"
I smile. "Your number." I have asked for her number all week but she wont give it to me.
I can see the little smile that forms on her face. "I have told you multiple times that you can't get it and now order something or I get Barry to throw you out." Barry is a big guy with muscles. But I am not scared of him. He is one of the nicest guys i have ever met.
"Baby, give me your number. Thats what I am ordering." I smile the smile to her and hope it gets her weak in the knees.
It looks like it worked but then she gets her walls up again. "That is not on the menu."
"Oh really, what is on the menu then?"
She blushes and looks down. Such a cutie. "Just order some food, Mason." My name coming out of her mouth get my dick to rise. And that is why I do as told.
"I will have three sandwiches. One with kebab and two with chicken." I say.
She smiles and gets to work, making our sandwiches. I go back to the boys having a mission to get her phone numer today. Whatever it is gonna take.
