POV Melissa
A beautiful sunrise peeks out from behind the tall city buildings, as the sound of early morning traffic fills the air. *alarm goes off* Melissa wakes up and realizes she's running late for work. "Oh no!" she exclaims, hastily throwing on some clothes and grabbing her shoes and computer case before rushing out the door.
When she finally arrives at the office, her boss greets her with anger. "Why are you late?" he demands. "I'm sorry, I overslept," Melissa replies, her disappointment evident in her voice. The boss motions for her to sit in front of his desk. As she takes a seat, he looks at her sternly and says, "If you want to be a journalist, you'll need to outshine me with your work.
That being said, you're going to uncover Chris Wood's biggest secret and write the greatest story of all time. If you succeed, you'll keep your job. If not, you'll be fired." Melissa is taken aback. "But sir, no journalist has been able to get a hold of Chris Wood, let alone interview him. How am I supposed to-" Before she can finish her sentence, the boss interrupts her.
"Melissa, I've arranged for you to work at Containment as a coffee runner. Chris Wood will be there, and you'll have the opportunity to become his friend and uncover his secret." The boss gets up from his chair and looks at Melissa intently. "So, I have to lie?" Melissa asks nervously. "Yes, now go pack your bags. Here's your ticket," the boss says, handing her the ticket before leaving the room. Melissa looks at the ticket in disbelief. "Today? At 9:30 PM? I better hurry."End of chapter 1
