Eight Years Later
Carmen's POV"Just leave it there," I tell my brother as he places the picture frame holding a photo of our parents inside on the shelf. Moving in isn't a big deal until the unpacking comes up. I'd rather be sitting down, eating a meal, and drinking beer. At least my brother came to help me out, unlike my friends.
"Carmen, you really don't know how to pack light, do you," he says with sarcastic annoyance. My brother and I have always been close, so close that when we argue, we end up laughing it off. Now that I think about it, most of our arguments were kind of silly.
"Like I won't bring my ps4, my Wii, and my Xbox 1," I say to him. "You can have the Xbox 360 though. It's a piece of crap anyway," I mumble.
My brother turns around to look at me. No words come out of his mouth. He just makes this irritating face, the face I find most amusing of his. I laugh and he becomes even more irritated. I can't even stop because his irritated face amuses me too much.
He opens the last box, a box full of video games placed next to my laptop, and complains about me having way too much stuff. Well, the laptop is for my job and the video games are for fun. Because he knows me well enough, my brother puts the games on a shelf and the laptop on the table.
"Well, that's it. Any more and it's going to be nightfall. You better not have any more stuff." My brother looks at me suspiciously.
"Ha ha ha. Stop making me sound like a woman."
"You're a guy, but you're a woman at heart."
"Very funny," I sarcastically tell him. "Now shut the fuck up."
My brother opens the door and shuts it on his way out, laughing while doing so. It's quiet in my house and because of it, it feels empty. My peaceful life finally begins. To be living on my own, it's gonna be great. No more being roommates with my friend from college. No more parties or anything else that's noisy.
I go into my bedroom and lay down on my bed, ready to take a nap. It takes a while for me to fall asleep, but everything suddenly ceases to exist. My brain shuts down...
After my nap is over, I open my eyes and get out of bed to start working. I have an assignment that I need to give to my boss by tomorrow and I'm almost finished. It's so stressful. Good thing I got that nap in when I did or else I would never finish it. I'd be too exhausted.
With much effort and concentration, I finish the last bit of my work. No longer having anything to do sure makes me hungry, or maybe I'm just noticing how hungry I am now. Food is always a good thing to have. Without food, there would be no romance in my life. Since I can't find my ideal woman, I might as well marry my fridge. I told that to my friends once and they burst out into laughter. Those were some fun days.
I take my cell phone out of my pocket and dial the number for pizza delivery. "Hello," I say after someone answers.
I order myself a large meat lovers pizza and then put my phone back in my pocket. Nobody can resist a good pizza, especially when it sits right there in front of your eyes leaving a fresh appetizing scent.
The doorbell rings and I open it to be greeted by the scent of pizza. "That'll be ten dollars and eighty cents, please," says the pizza delivery man.
