Can I? (Book 3)

Chapter 7

Jax's POV

Ariana and I both lay down on the blanket and stare at the stars. Everything has been amazing between us and she's the most amazing girl out there.

"Ari, I love you." I smile and look over at her.

"Aw, Jax, I love you, too." She blushes and cuddles into my chest. Everything is so simple now. We both don't have a care in the world.

I feel like I've been happy for such a long time now, maybe too happy. Things seem to be too easy.

"Ari, what happened after that fire?" I ask, shifting to look at her.

"What fire?" She asks, giving me a confused look.

"The one at the testing site. How do you not remember?" I ask, getting a look from her as if I am crazy.

"Jax, I don't know what you're talking about." She frowns.

"Ari, you were being tortured and then Natalie tried to burn us alive. How do you not remember that?"

"Well, if that happened, how come you don't remember what happened afterwards?" Ari gives me a look.

"I don't know. But, this can't be real."

"What are you talking about? This is real."

"No this is a dream. This isn't even happening right now." I stand up and run away from her, not sure where I'm trying to go.

"Jax, come back!" She yells, but I don't listen. I keep running and finally fall to my knees. I'm exhausted, but I know what I have to do.

"C'mon, Jax. Wake up. Wake up!" I yell at myself and pull on my hair.

"WAKE UP!"

All I see is the inside of my eyelids. What's going on? Where am I?

"Yeah, so that's what happened today. I wish you would wake up soon, Jax. I miss you so much." Ari's voice says and I feel her hand grab mine. It takes all my strength, but I wrap my hand around her's and I hear Ari gasp.

"Oh my god, doctor! Someone! He's waking up! Oh my gosh, Jax." She cries happy tears and I get the strength to open my eyes.

"Ari." I croak and smile at her.

"Jax, I can't believe that you're awake. Shhh... don't talk. Just relax. The doctors are on their way. I missed you so much." She kisses my hand.

"I missed you, too." I smile and then decide to stop talking. Doctors rush into the room and they start to help me. All I did was look at Ari and smile. I was finally awake, but now I need to know what's been happening.

Ariana's POV

"He's making a great recovery, Miss Winters. Jax should be able to leave the hospital in a few days. Until then, you are free to visit and so are any others that wish to." The doctor smiles and then leaves the room.

I feel like jumping around and throwing a party. Jax is finally awake and I couldn't be happier. I decide to dial Daniel's number and wait for him to answer.

"Hello?"

"Daniel, get to the hospital now. Jax is awake."

"Really? That's awesome! I'll let the gang know. We'll be down in a bit." He says and then hangs up.

...

I walk away from Jax's room and head down the hall. Everyone was talking to him, so I decided that I would go talk to Kyle. Kyle is laying in his hospital bed, watching the football game on the tv. I stifle a laugh as he looks over at me.

He turns the tv off and motions for me to come over to him. I smile and sit down next to him. He's been looking at lot better, but he's still recovering from the bullet wound.

"Hey, Kyle. How are you feeling?" I ask.

"Hey, Ari. I'm feeling better. I can't believe I shot myself with my own gun while I was hunting." He shakes his head. I felt bad that I had to erase his memory of what happened. I hate keeping secrets from him, but it's for the best.

After talking to him for awhile and telling him that Jax was awake, I went back to Jax's room to say goodbye for the night.

"Hey, Jax." I smile and walk into his room.

"Hey, babe." He smiles back. I sit down next to him and we interlock our hands.

"So, what's been happening? Emma didn't come in to see me today. And everyone just seemed off." He frowns.

"Things have just been rough. They haven't been the same since I got back. I don't know if they ever will, again." I hang my head low and he pats the bed, motioning for me to lay down with him.

"Hey, don't worry. I'm here now. I don't want you to be sad anymore." Jax kisses my cheek and wraps his arms around me. He pulls me close to him and we cuddle on the hospital bed.

"I love you." I look over my shoulder at him.

"I love you, too."
