"Marceline, right?" The deep and slightly accented voice talked. Alice jumped beside me but I stayed still, I expected it.

I glance at him and Alice's eyes bulge as she sees him behind us.

"Who's asking?" I mutter.

"I need to talk to you." He's walking closer, my body stiffens.

"No." I simply breathe out, continuing to walk with Alice. She's silent but her eyes are full of confusion. I'm just as confused. She takes out my necklace from her sweater pocket and hands it to me since now we're in the halls.

"It's important!" He declares, still walking behind Alice and I in these empty corridors. I start to get a little panicked. People here in this academy aren't very friendly once they realize what they've gotten into. They just stay on their side with their people or alone.

It is unusual for people here to talk to newcomers unless they're new themselves. Then they're like the rest of us. Alone even in their group of friends.

I pause, Alice's body jolts back from our arms being linked. I turn my head, to my surprise he's just standing there. Face frozen solid, no expression, no emotion. I thought he'd have at least a look of despair but I can't tell anything on his face. His arms remain crossed.

Now I'm intrigued. Not a good thing because how does this complete stranger know my name without me ever seeing him a day in my life?

I exhale, knowing I'd regret this action later.

"Alice, I'll meet up with you at the dorms." I turn to her now. She gazes at the boy with worry.

"Are you sure-"

"Positive." I conclude.

She nods her head, grabbing the straps of her backpack tightly in her hold before she disappears off into the left wing.

I cross my arms now, mimicking him. He steps in closer and I get a good view of him now. His face is heart shaped, he had a nice tall nose. Lips were rounded and full. Tinted red. There's a beauty mark below his left eye.

He's staring at me, intensely. His eyes were daring.

"Let's go somewhere private." He declares and my eyebrows draw together. I tilt my head to the side, displeased with his audacity.

"First, you know my name when I have never seen you here, ever. And now you demand me to go somewhere private with you? Who the hell do you think I am?" I retorted and his eyes narrowed into slits. Displeased. What? Was I supposed to jump foot at his request?

"I know that you're smart enough to know what's happening in this shithole. I need your help." He presses, still expressionless. His eyes are cold, they're staring right through me and it makes me feel small. I'm uncomfortable.

"What are you talking about-"

"Don't play dumb with me, you can fool everyone here except me." He dismisses. I scoff out a breath of disbelief. He's pissing me off. What the hell does he know? He strolled in here unexpectedly and he just gets to grill me?

He doesn't know how anything here works.

"What the fuck do you know?" I grimace, he smirks annoyingly at my utter annoyance.

"Would you just hear me out?" He pleads, this time in a calmer tone. He exhales a breath of justified impatience. My posture oddly enough straightens and I actually start to think about it.

Oddly enough.

"Five minutes, that's it." I finalize and he shrugs as a little smile blossoms on his lips. It disappears when I glance at him again, coldly.
