power is a pollutant

Power is a pollutant that is more potent than Ozone or NOx or any vapor that could seep from the stupidly poisonous throats of humans [collectively]. It squirms and thrashes until it has a comfortable place in a susceptible human brain. Much like a parasite, power requires a host--a vessel. Unlike a natural born parasite, however, it craves this host.

Power is human made. A forever and ever curse cast too many years in the past. No one really remembers why, but they reason. "For order! For justice! For equality!" They cry, and everyone around them nods vigorously and chants with them, but nobody really knows what possessed them to have any of it in the first place. Kings, queens, tribes--systems of ranking peoples' worth goes back centuries. Why?

You'd have to ask those who first cast the curse, and they're long disappeared, all traces of them burned, the ashes swept away. The best we can do now is yell to the winds, when the weather gets especially harsh [or perhaps especially beautiful].
