He seemed taken aback at first. But then he slowly scanned the crowd as if he too had no idea before he met my eyes once again and nodded once.

"Damn," I said out loud. And I mean loud. The neighbouring tables including the one with my cousins turned to look at us as Jude wiggled his eyebrows.

"I'm sorry," I mumbled looking down.

"There are," he affirmed verbally, making me look up at him.

"Are there a lot?"

"A handful, I'd say,"

"That's a lot of demons at a human wedding," He raised his eyebrow at that. "No offense," I quickly added.

He sighed. "You say that a lot but none taken, but you know in your society there's a lot more demons than you think, and a lot of them are quite powerful and influential people... erm characters,"

"Oh, so like businessmen and stuff?" How many demons had I interacted with? How many of my father's associates were demons? How many people here that had offered me polite smiles had been demons?

"Not just them some singers, actors and even some normal people are demons. Not just demons, angels too walk the Earth,"

"Seriously?" I asked willing myself not to be too loud.

"Yeah, quite a few too and before you ask it no, they don't fight and no demons won't harm humans. We were allowed entry upon taking an oath and by something like signing an agreement, the consequences of harming a human is death,"

I was going to ask him if he read my mind again but the last part made a chill run up my spine and the question slipped my mind as more took form.

"Who kills them?"

He was quite for a moment as he maintained eye contact but then replied, "Me,"

Another chill went up my spine as I stared at his eyes. They looked cold and detached. I looked away needing a break from the eye contact and swallowed, my throat suddenly feeling dry. I understood just how powerful and scary this man infront of me was. No, not man but yet knowing that he could probably end me in a blink I didn't really fear him. Which probably was a mistake, one that could inevitably end my life.

But I made myself turn to look at him once again, "And how many demons have you killed for this offense?"

"None,"

Oh. So, so far no demon had harmed a human. That was releiving. But wait... would Lucien harm a person. I didn't think so. He hasn't harmed anyone so far. Not even Aunt Mary. But considering he was the punisher, it's not like he would punish himself. But then again he wouldn't.

He was looking at me and I gasped, "No mind reading!"

He seemed taken aback before he burst into laughter. "No worries, I won't"

"And didn't," he added after I narrowed my eyes at him.

"If you doubt me so much, you can put up a wall or blind, it blocks entrance to your mind,"

"You're telling me this now?" I whisper screamed as he shrugged.

"Your thoughts are funny and kinda loud,"

I nearly gasped. If they were loud he must've heard a lot of my thoughts. Noo. My thoughts could be embarrassing. "Tell me how to put up a wall right now,"

"Just think of a wall in your mind and try to block out the outside world for a minute, it'll be there for as long as you want someone to enter your mind,"

"It's that easy? But I don't think I'll be able to do it,"

"Just try it," he encouraged.

I imagined a wall and tried to concentrate my mind just into that wall not letting it wander anywhere and tried not to listen to all the background noise and for a second it was very quiet and peaceful inside my head and I opened my eyes that I had closed.
