8: Linka gets approval to proceed with plan

Linka was nervous, sweating profusely at his small desk. This was after he had contacted Labo on the phone, using the Linda's phone.

Now, a few minutes afterwards, he was expecting a call from his boss. Linka almost jumped when his cell phone began to ring.

He picked it up. "Hello?"

"Linka, how did everything go?" the voice boomed in his ear.

"All went well, sir," Linka said.

"Have you made contact yet?'

"Yes, I have. Five hundred million naira, the day after tomorrow."

"What did he say?"

"Nothing, sir," Linka said. "I guess he was in a shock. I will let you know what he has when I contact him again."

"Did you warn him what will happen if he went to the police?"

"I made that very clear, sir."

"All right, well done." The line went dead in Linka's ear.

Linka took a deep breath of relief. He got to his feet. Time to go feed the bitch, he thought as he left the tiny office and stepped on to the corridor and the noisy buz from outside.

Linka walked down the stairs, crossed the slowmoving busy traffic to the nearest eatery some two hundred metres away.

Once inside the cozy food joint Linka made a large order: five plates of jollof rice, fried rice, chicken, plantain and salad, along with assorted soft drinks and table water in takeaway packs.

He carried his arms full of bags out in the hot sun and stood by the kerb waiting for an empty cab. .

An empty taxi cab stopped beside him. Linka climbed into the back seat and gave the driver directions to the lone bungalow at the end of a partly undeveloped housing estate
