The beep sound startled her. Standing on her shivering feet she took the stick in her hand and stared at it blankly.

The two red lines.

The stick fell out of her hand in shock not able to believe that.

Devika looked at the other sticks that she had tested and sighed seeing the negative mark, in the other, it was positive leaving her confused.
She got some relief knowing that the test kits were not working properly and it was not confirmed she was pregnant.

But what if she is?

Devika wiped her tears and picked up all the tests wrapping them in tissue paper.

Veer should not find this. She thought and hid it inside her bag to throw it out later.

She came out and saw Maria standing outside her room anxious.

"What happened?" Maria asked.

"Two of them were positive and the other one... negative." She said and Maria sighed in relief and still a little fear was there in their heart.

"Don't worry child.. everything will be okay." Maria assured her, Devika nodded sadly.

She sat on the bed looking blankly at the wall. What if I am pregnant? She asked herself feeling dread.

Her hand rested on her belly caressing it. "I am sorry, but I hope you are not there. It is not the right time for you to come into our lives."

She whispered and wiped her tears.

I have to confirm it soon. She thought, getting up she walked to the balcony sitting on the swing. Bringing her knees up she hugged herself.

Devika closed her eyes and relaxed.

"Devika! Devika!" She heard something calling and shaking her trying to wake her up from her sleep.

Devika opened her eyes thinking when she slept and looked beside her rubbing her eyes. She was surprised to see Veer standing in front of her, not noticing the hard look on his face she smiled and stood up to hug him but he stopped her holding her arm.

"Veer?" She called confused by his behaviour. She wanted to hug him and cry her heart out, feel his hand caressing her hair making her feel secure and not alone.

Seeing his face she sensed something was wrong.

"Why didn't you tell me?" He asked.

Devika stared at him not understanding what was happening. "Veer.. wh-"

He cut her off and gripped her arm tightly making her hiss in pain.

"Veer.. you are hurting me." She whispered trying to take off his hand but no use.

"You are pregnant!" He shouted making her numb in her place. She stared at him with fear shaking her head lightly trying to tell she was not.

"No. Veer. I.. I am-"

"Shut up! I had told you that you can't get pregnant even by mistake either! Did you skip your pills?"

Devika bit her lips in nervousness looking down. She had skipped it last month by mistake.
