"Happy birthday sweet girl" I wrap my arms around the girl who's surrounded by balloons, flowers and presents.
"Thank you, Di" she gives me a smile and I melt. The most precious smile and girl spending her birthday in her hospital room. The world is cruel.
I step aside for all the other coming to wish her a happy birthday and suddenly feel a hand on my lower back and lips slightly touching my temple. Lips I know all too well.
"Hey" Miles whispered .
"Hey, why didn't you pick up when I called last night?" I ask, crossing my arms over my chest.
"Oh sorry, I was really busy" he answers but I don't respond. "Darling, don't be mad at me" he turns his body towards me creating a human freaking wall between us.
I look up at him and say quietly "why would I be mad? I'm not your girlfriend so you don't have any obligation to answer I was just wondering"
I could see his jaw clenching before taking a deep breath.
"Don't- I-" He starts. His hand on my back lowers. "We will talk about everything later but right now, Natalia is all that matters."
I go on my tiptoes, my hand creeps around his neck before I lay a steady hand on the back of his head, pulling him down for a light kiss "you will tell me everything, no lies."
"Yes ma'am" is all he says before I walk away.
"Oh my gosh this is the coolest thing ever, thank you so much Miles" she stares down with awe at all the video game's equipment in her lap.
"Let me know if you need someone to play with and I'll come" he tells her with a smile.
Soon enough, Natalia's room was filled with presents. From toys, stuffed animals, clothes and games. For every new gift she kept on having the same bright smile on her face, showing appreciation to everything she got.
"Okay so we have one more gift left, however, we want you to open it and read it" I hold out the envelope to Natalia's mom. She looks at me with a confused expression but still takes the letter from me and says thank you.
Teardrops start to fall from her cheeks when she opens the letter and starts reading.
"Mama, what's wrong?" Natalia looks at her mom with concern.
"I- I- it's too much" miss Galani throws her arms around me in a tight and warm embrace. I hug her tightly and can't help but let a few tears fall from my cheeks.
"It's exactly what she deserves and what you deserve. Nothing is more important than family and Natalia needs her mom by her side and you need your daughter"
"Mama?" Natalia calls from her bed.
"Oh my sweet sweet girl" her mother rushes to her daughter's side "I can finally be here, with you" she cries, kissing her daughter's cheek.
Every person in the room looks confused except for us four. Miles squeeze my hand, Ophelia is crying while watching Natalia hug her mom and Xavier rubs her back while he gives me a smile.
I decide to let the little family have their moment while taking care of telling the people in the room. "So, we have decided, me, Miles, Ophelia and Xavier that we're going to pay for Natalia's recovery and treatment. Every medical bill from now on is covered so that miss Galani can be by her daughter's side through all the horrible things without having to work for the pennies at her three jobs and so that Natalia can finally beat cancer and walk out of this hospital healthy and cured" the cheers echoes in the birthday girl's room and my mother comes rushing towards me with a huge hug before she joins the Natalia and miss Galani hug.

"So, you want to talk now?" Miles asks as he settles down next to me on the patio couch. I wrap the blanket around me even more as a chilly breeze sweeps by as I look over the ocean.
"You can talk, I'll listen" I tell him, leaning back to watch him.
He's sitting with his forearms on his thighs, his head tilted down as he looks at the beer in his hand.
"I couldn't answer because I was with Xav, he's a bit broken after hearing about Ophelia and that guy she calls boyfriend" he says before taking a sip of his drink. "I know I could've told you but he didn't want me too in that moment, he just needed his best friend"
"I understand" I stroke his back with my hand "but you've been acting weird since the event"
"There's nothing wrong I-" he pauses "you don't need to worry" he turns around slightly and give me a smile.
He lied.
If there was nothing wrong he would've finished that sentence with 'I promise' however, he did not.
We sit in silence for a moment. Miles leans back and puts his arm on the back of the couch.
"I forgot to tell you that Liliana invited us to her party next Friday, we should go, could be fun"
"Could be" I look up at him with a grin "we should go" I answer and he grins back with a slight chuckle before resting his head on my shoulder.
Why didn't I hear about this party from Liliana when I met her earlier in the day?
