Autumn woke sometime later with a small groan. I pull my lips into a thin line, seeing the scars running up and down her arms. She raises a hand to her forehead and sucks in a shallow breath through her teeth. She sees me staring sourly at the cuts and bruises and immediately brings down her arms, rubbing her hand along them. I should've been there. She should never have been captured. It was my fault-

"Stop." She says, her lips now in a sour line.

"I didn't say anything!"

"You were thinking it."

"Was not!"

"Were too! I know you well enough now. It was NOT your fault. I was captured because I decided to leave and go to camp. And I'm fine now."

My pupils dilate, my will for being audacious gone. Her gaze softens. "Not everything is your fault." My brow furrows. "But this time it is!" She shakes her head and sighs, pinching her nose bridge with her index finger and thumb. "You are IMPOSSIBLE.

"I am not! Besides, YOU stabbed ME! " A voice breaks into our conversation from behind me. Autumn sees him and mumbles. "Not you, Zedo." I turn to see the guy who warned me from entering Jasmine's room standing in the doorway on a single crutch this time. "YOU! " I growl, turning to lunge.

"Uh...Me? AHHHHH!" He screams as I tackle him. Then he grunts. "OOF!"

Autumn leapt from her seat. "ROWAN! STOP IT!" I had pulled back my fist so I could punch him in his stupid face, but Autumn outcry made me stop. I hesitate, still tempted. "Fine." I mumble, standing up. Autumn rushes to Zedo and helps him stand, leaning him on his crutch.

My chest constricts, my pulse quickening uncertainly.

Then the unbelievable happens.

Autumn walks up to me and takes my hands. "I'm sorry Rowan. But I don't love you."

I feel my heart shatter.

"We were fighting for OUR LIVES in the arena. I got caught up in the moment. What we felt in the arena, It wasn't love. I'm sorry." She dropped my hands and turned away, back to Zedo. Zedo grinned sheepishly and I turned away. Jasmine didn't love me anymore, as she had decided she was a loner now.

Looks like I never left the Hunger Games after all.
