I and Lucas, after escaping, went to Jane's house. But before that, I had confided in Jane about our situation, in which she provided her house as a safe haven for now before we found a better place to hide. I didn't want Jane to be the next target for our hit and had planned to lay low for the time being, maybe for like two weeks, before we moved.

When we arrived, we were welcomed and given good hospitality by Jane, who is my best friend and like a sister to me. We ate and talked for a long time, catching up on old memories, before calling it a night.

That night, as we slept, I was still scared. We were invaded by the organization, and this time, we were not prepared to escape. Along the line, we didn't know of the darkness that lurked behind.

Jane, what's happening? I asked her, panicking, my voice laced with fear and concern. I was worried about Jane's safety and welfare, afraid of the possibility of them hurting her because of us.

Jane then looked at me in the eyes, smiling mischievously. You thought you had it all, right?

What are you even saying, Jane? I asked her. Aren't you my best friend, for crying out loud? My eyes welled up with tears as I took a step back, my voice trembling. 'How could you, Jane?' I managed to choke.

How could she do this to us? The irony wasn't lost on me—I had hurt Lucas in the past, just as she has hurt me now. Why did you sell us out, Jane? Why do this? I kept asking her. I was so afraid of moving, as I didn't want to be shot by Steve's men surrounding us.

Her expression hardened, and she growled, hot tears streaming down her face. I have been secretly in love with Lucas, and I saw him first before you ever did. I had no choice but to hurt you in order to get him off your back. And I was the happiest, finding out you both divorced. But you know one thing: it was a price that I was willing to pay.

Lucas, seeing that we were surrounded by Steve and his men, quickly drew me close to his side. Asking Jane, Do you know what you have done?,Lucas's gaze turned icy, his eyes slicing into Jane like a blade.

'Do you know what you've done?' he growled, his voice low and menacing. So, you conspired with Steve in order for me to be an exchange or what? Do you think that I am some kind of burnt offering? He growled at her.

I don't care what you say. But just know one thing: I love you, Lucas, and I would never betray you, she begged him.

Really? He said. Just like you just did a couple of seconds ago. I don't give a fuck about your confession, but get one thing straight: I would never love you because I am still in love with Jennifer.

Blushing about his confession and having my heart warm was cut short when Steve came forward, disrupting the scene.

Steve strode into the room, his heavy boots echoing off the walls. His cold, calculating gaze swept over us, making my skin crawl. 'I hate to be a party popper,' he sneered, his voice dripping with malice, but I can't handle the clique and asked us, Did you really think we could run away from him? I was actually very nice, but now you both need to dance to the tune of your music.

Before Jane could say something in order to interrupt Steve further, he turned and shot her straight in the face before moving to face us. Gosh, she fucking talks too much and doesn't know when to stop. Don't she? He mischievously smirked and asked.

But where were we? He asked. Oh yes, I remember, as he licked the tip of his gun and winked at us.

He pointed the gun at Lucas, firing at him. But before he could comprehend what was happening, I moved forward and took his place as the gun fired straight into my stomach.

Lucas's eyes remained shut, his chest rising and falling in shallow breaths. His skin was deathly pale, and a faint sheen of sweat coated his forehead. He looked like a man teetering on the edge of life and death. Eyes wide like saucers, Lucas asked, Why? I can't lose you again, Jen.

But before Steve could shoot Lucas, he didn't know, as he wasn't observant about what was going on, but his main focus was on me, getting taken to the hospital. Steve heard some firings from outside, which made him escape, but before he left, he told us, until we meet again, Mon cherries.
