"I think, Maisie..."

"Yes?"

"That Lockwood just wants to see us in girl uniforms," Lucy muttered, looking as if she wanted to punch the lead agent of their agency as she approached the school. "That, or George did, and that's why the boys secured girl uniforms for us."

"You can't be sure that's true."

Lucy headed up the stone steps and stepped into the colossal school, remembering how the option of attending a high school ended up ripped from her control the moment she'd been signed on for an agency, her mother wanting the pocket money that came from having a daughter earning agents stipend rather than thinking of Lucy as an actual daughter, that Lucy owed her that much.

A bell rang, and students left class for lunch. As they did, male students appeared while Lucy ran a hand through her hair. One such male student stopped, grinning ear to ear, one of the more nerdy types with glasses like George. "You must be new. Do you need any help getting..."

"My sister and I are looking for the library," Lucy said, then found herself dealing with a rather excited nerd who proceeded to tell her exactly where she could find the library before he disappeared, offering both of them seats at his lunch table if the two of them wanted to eat with him.

"What are the chances he eats alone, poor guy," Maisie sighed.

"That's still normal once kids without talents reach that age?"

"Oh, yes. It's normal among kids that age with or without talents, the former if their parents can afford to keep their kids from working at an agency and they hope their own doesn't show any interest."

"Says the girl who's actively rebelling against her mother to do some odd jobs for our agency."

"Well, that is to repay Lockwood & Co. for helping us. Goodness knows my mother can't, and my father isn't the original client, so Anthony refuses to accept money from him as it would be bad for business."

"Lockwood is just majorly stubborn and likes being eccentric. Case in point..." Lucy nodded at the school. "There are male students, so George and he could have come instead of us, although my gift is needed at this stage."

"Then it's not as you think because your gift..."

"Lockwood or George could have just as easily come instead of you, but now that I think about this, it must be Lockwood's idea because George would never turn up a chance to do research."

"Unless he hid something in the uniforms."

Lucy's mouth opened and then snapped shut. Her eye twitched ."Remind me to kill the guys when this is done?"

"Noted. Let's head...."

"Yes. Hold on," Lucy held up a hand, approaching a sports case. "Good grief. They should place all of this behind iron."

"Wait, are you saying the sports case contains artifacts?"

"Yes," Lucy said, but I'm not sure that is surprising given some of their star athletes must be..."

"You shouldn't," a voice came from behind. "You shouldn't talk like that!"

Lucy turned and saw a girl whose black hair had been pulled into braids. "What do you mean by that?"

"I mean that the other students..." The girl gasped out. "If they find you're talented, some will try—tonight!"

"Tonight?

"Well, nothing, but they want to be interested in sneaking in!"

Lucy sighed. "The moment I get to a phone, I'm informing Lockwood that George can't spend more than a day researching the school."
