He spent his days trapped, as if he was a caged animal. To them, he was. He was nothing more than a burden, a pet of sorts, something they trained. He couldn't sleep most night, the sound of constant water dripping from the basements ceiling ticked just enough for him to become restless, the sound eventually turning to something torturous, the echo of it engraved itself into his brain. Drip. Drip. Drip. It played on an endless loop, and he'd wished it was soon his time to leave.
Alerted by the door creaking open, his eyes looked up at the figure in the doorway who stood towering over the shaking boy with a carcass of something in it's hand. The week-old body of a deceased hare was thrown to the floor Infront of him, and his eyes brightened slightly, glancing between the looming figure and the generously gifted pile of a rotting animal.
"Food?... Thank you..." The poor boys voice was hoarse from years of neglect and dehydration, but gratefully for the reward for his obedience. "Finish in ten minutes and when you're done, come upstairs to clean the house." The man spoke cruelty, commanding rather than requesting. Shakily, the shivering boy nodded and the moment the door was shut and his father was gone, he stripped the animal of its fur, hungrily gnawing at the remains of the creature.
His hands were stained with blood, his mouth stuffed with the flesh of the hare, but he finished quickly and wiped his hands on the shirt he wore. It was filthy, holes littered the fabric, just like the shorts he wore. His bare feet were calloused, never having worn a pair of shoes since he was 'disposed of' into the dingy room.
That night was ordinary, nothing seemed to change but fate guide him on a path that was destined to destroy him physically yet bless him emotionally, and mentally.
