He ran through the dense shrubbery of the forest floor, sharp twigs and rocks piercing into his feet as he stumbled to get away. Any place other than there. Nonetheless, it was freeing. The evening breeze drifted through his overgrown and matted hair, over his skin, into his lungs.it was very overwhelming at first, all the greenery and the intimidating size and stature of each passing tree looming over the escaped boy, shrouding the clouded sky in an endless array of branches, but his panic replaced the feeling of aw at the bright world. His life-long captivity finally ended on that day his father decided to open the door at the sound of a bell, got attacked, and he slipped through with his life.

Hearing voices, he followed them with burning lungs until a clearing opened. The sudden crack of thunder caused him to flinch heavily, but his eyes remained glued to what was Infront of him. People. The adrenaline of his unexpected escape wore off, his knees buckling under his weight once he stepped into the field, catching the immediate attention of the group there. They initially assessed him, staring at his incredibly malnutritioned and pale body, the filthy and torn clothing that barely clung to him, and the way his disheveled face looked almost lifeless while he painted and ached for breath.

The moment he let his guard down, he finally collapsed onto the ground, void of any energy to even try a s get back up. As soon as he fell, a tall blonde rushed to the weak boys side in extreme worry, placing one hand on his back and slinging the other around the man's shoulder, effectively carrying him to a small makeshift bench composed of boxes. He was rest down onto it, and he was instantly swarmed by the group wearily eyeing him, asking various questions.

"Are you alright?" "What is your name?" "Would you like some water?" "What happened to you?" The questions overlapped one another, until they were silenced by the mature blonde male raising his hand to quieten them down. Everyone stopped while the oldest looking woman rushed to a vehicle the buy hadn't noticed before, returning with a bottle of water in her hands.

"I am Carlisle, and I am a doctor. I need you to drink some water so I can help you more." He introduced himself quietly, his gentle voice calming and gaining trust of the boy. The woman opened the bottle and handed it to the boy, his shaky hands barely strong enough to grasp it, although he did manage and took a tiny sip of the liquid before coughing it straight back up. He wasn't used to clean water, his only source of hydration for years was the metallic taste of blood he got when eating whatever was thrown for him.

"May I know your name? And what happened to you?" Carlisle softly asked, checking to boy for any injuries and such, to his suprise, there was none visible. "Me... Mutt. Was in... House got... Attacked. Escape..." His voice barely audible, cracking even at the minimal words he said. Carlisle became deeply saddened by his short and broken sentences, the explanation stung his heart.

"Your name is Mutt?" To that, the boy nodded. "Parent... Always say Mutt." He couldn't believe it, there was no way this boys name was actually Mutt, he couldn't fathom how heartbreaking the boys parents had treated him, simply by his appearance and introduction as 'Mutt'.

Carlisle shook his head, disapprovingly at the name. "What about Gabriel? Would you like to be called that?" He offers to the boy, the cluster of people watching the boy with curiousity, their eyes scanning him over and over again. He nodded his head wearily, hesitance in his eyes but he accepted the new name nonetheless. "Gab... Gabriel..." He repeated his new name, a foreign feeling of tranquility, a tiny smile quivered his lips.

"Well then Gabriel, do you have any place to stay? Any home other than where you came from?" The woman asks, who later introduces herself as Esme, crouching down to appear less intimidating to him. He shakes his head, but with slight confusion. "Am I... Supposed to?" At this question, a slight chuckle can be heard a few feet away, along with whispering though he couldn't make out what was said.

"Why doesn't he stay with us?" A short girl pipes up, friendly smiling at him. He observed her, looking at her short and fluffy  dark hair, her eyes that shone golden matching her cheery smile, and the way she spoke being absolutely filled to the brim with energy. Don't really get along with people who have energy. She's interesting.

"Alice, that's a good idea but remember that Jasper is our newest vegetarian. It may be difficult for him." Carlisle responds in a way that doesn't around suspicion in Gabriel. He looks over to who they were indicating to, his eyes meeting with dark and hollow ones that soften slightly at the eye contact yet hold pity, beautiful blonde hair framing his face, his stone cold face that faltered as they look into each others soul through their eyes.

Jasper listened to what Gabriel had said happened to him, and couldn't feel anything but sadness and pity for the human. He was just like him, his past was eerily similar. Jasper could since unrest and weariness coming from the miraculously uninjured boy, and fed him emotions of calmness, hoping to ease Gabriel's recent traumatic memories. He wished there was someone to do that for him, when he was new. 'Be the person you needed. He needs you, so be there for him.'

His train of thought was broken as he felt a tap on his shoulder, turning around to face Edward. He could see now that Edward had read his thoughts, and Jasper saw how he smiled slightly, almost gratefully at him. "You've read my thought, didn't you?" He sighed, and his brother nodded.

"What a tragic backstory to a boy like himself. You think you should at least be there for him, because you needed someone like that too don't you?" Their conversation was quiet, so quiet that it could only be heard by their own ears, despite the enhanced hearing of the rest of the family.

~Gabriel's POV~

The nice people lead me to a large metal box with four wheels and glass. I've never seen something as intricate as that, let alone this pristine. "What is that?" I ask, looking up at Carlisle with fearful curiosity. What if it hurts me? What is that thing? Why is it so shiny? I hear a slight giggle behind me coming from Edward, who was introduced to me last.

The tall man smiles down to me, sorrow evident in his eyes at how deprived I was, not even knowing what every day things were. "It's called a car, and it takes you to where you want to go if it's too far for you to walk." He explains, placing one hand onto my back and leading me into the back seat, putting a seat belt around my chest and clicking it into place, and getting into the driver seat. The seat is so comfortable, soft... nothing like the place I was at. It's nice. Two others also got in the car after Carlisle and I, one sitting next to me. Esme sat in the from with Carlisle, and Jasper sat next to me in the back.

The moment the cars engine roared to life, I tensed up and felt the hairs on the back of my neck stand up. I felt a random surge of tranquility rush over me, but I still felt a bit worried deep down. "The noise, I don't like it... Why is it in this car?" Before I could think of an answer for my own question, Carlisle answered. "It's the engine, it helps moving the car so you can go faster or slower."

I nod my head, my curiosity dwindling but I was also eagerly wanted to know more. Another time mabey.

And so, the entire journey Gabriel stared out the window, gaping in awe at how fast the car was moving and the scenery that whizzed past. Every time he saw something he liked, such as a waterfall or some birds, he would point at it with a smile plastered on his face, which made Jasper's heart melt.
