Night Six

Leaving the complex was just as difficult as getting in. Because someone got a little too nosy about footprints in the snow, and the two of you were almost caught. Aside from that, you got away scot free, and with your weapons back in tow. Minus the few you stole, but it was payback for them kidnapping you two.

Getting back to camp, time immediately felt longer than it should have. You managed to kill it by chatting with one another. As awkward as things were, it felt better than sitting in complete silence. You eventually got really bored and started to pace around, keeping your legs from getting sore. Keegan kept himself occupied by whittling some sticks into little spears and throwing them into the snow like throwing knives. It was only eleven in the morning, you really had to try harder. You both wouldn't eat till later anyway, so what could you do?

"Yo Keegan!"

The sergeant went to turn his head, but was instead pelted in his temple with a snowball. Your face looked a little shocked you hit him so hard, but you tried to suppress your giggles. Then you watched him shoot you an annoyed expression, angrily clearing the snow off his masked head and it killed your mood almost instantly. At least you tried. Turning around to find something else to do, you went ahead and looked up to the trees. Maybe you could- thwap!

Your body froze for a moment, but slowly you turned your head to look at the sergeant with wide eyes. Almost a crazy expression, something clearly Keegan had never seen from you as he stared at you trying to gauge your emotion.

"Oh....Oh it's on now motherfucker-"

You sprinted towards him, and immediately he scrambled to his feet to take off. And there you both went, having a one on one snowball fight. Acting like nothing was wrong. You were obviously having a blast, but you genuinely couldn't tell if Keegan was or not. Until you knocked him in the back of the head and heard him actually laugh. Not some half assed chuckle or pity giggle, but a real laugh. It made you feel better about everything that happened recently. Maybe you both would be okay.

"And then I proceed to slam his head into the desk because he wouldn't leave me alone."

"Damn, (Y/N). Definitely serves him right."

Night had faded fast after your near endless game of 'chase each other with snowballs until someone gives up'. You lost, but it didn't matter. You had food in your stomach, a campfire keeping you warm, and infinite stories to share with your teammate.

"Yeah, so don't mess with the quiet kids am I right?"

Keegan chuckled a little at your comment, you knowing damn well he still is the quiet kid. Things settled after that story, so you stared into the flames again and got lost in your mind. You kept thinking back to the map, and what the people on the radio were saying. Tomorrow was going to be extremely difficult if the extra troops got to that bunker first.

"Keegan, do you still have that map?"

"Yeah, why?"

"Can I look at it again?"

Carefully, the masked man pulled the folded paper out of his chest and handed it towards you. He made a comment about trying not to burn it and you just rolled your eyes, taking the map and unfolding it to look at it in its entirety. Five miles...wouldn't be a terrible trek. Even in the dark. You both still had some night vision goggles packed away somewhere so it would be fine. But still, that wasn't even remotely the top of your problems. You folded the paper back up and slid it into your own vest, standing up and going to the tent. Keegan watched you with confusion and curiosity, you saw his gaze follow you. But you kept on with your internal task and grabbed a few things you needed. And when you pulled away, you attached the night vision feature to the top of your helmet
