Anxiety suffocates my throat as repeated knocks on the door haunt the corridor.
I look back to see a small smirk hinting at Mateo's face, and to think we were finally on good terms. Demetrius beside me grips his gun, and a part of me feels annoyed — does my father, knowing the truth, force murder to occur?
The truth, or the truth Hanzo fabricated, meant that Demi's mother died for something she did not do. Is lying the best thing to do?
I get close to the door, look back at Demetrius, and open it. I take a peek, and Demetrius looks tense.
I glance behind to see the liar—oh, I mean Hanzo—glaring in fear, while Mateo looks bored now.
"Oh," I mutter. It was just the pizza guy.
"Just pizza!" I shout.
Now, who ordered pizza? The next mystery on our list.
"You should've seen your faces," Mateo chuckles.
I'm grabbing a knife.
A massive one.
He laughs loudly and points at all three of us.
"You should've seen your faces!" He exclaims.
As Hanzo and Demetrius glare in annoyance, I can't help but not feel relieved. I want to confront my father about the truth and the lies I've endured.
I want to know why he's treated me in such a way that left me a victim of my mother's wrath.
Why he allowed my mother to hurt the Capo brothers.
"This is wrong," I mumble.
All three look at me as if I slapped their faces.
"Val, what do you mean?" Demi comes close and squeezes my shoulder in reassurance. I look up at him and briefly smile.
"He needs to know the truth; it's wrong. I have faced so many lies, and as helpful as you have been, Mateo, at reviving my memories—"
"You're welcome," he cuts me off.
"She's not done talking," Demetrius argues, and I smile at his defense.
"I need to know my dad's perspective. I still feel as though there's more to the story," I mutter.
Hanzo's happy expression darkens, and realization hits him.Whether I tell the truth to Mateo and Demetrius is between us now.
"Valentina, as heroic as that is, how do you think your dad will react to your affair?" He questions.
"Firstly, not an affair; we're divorced. Secondly, he has to accept the fact I'm my own person with my own feelings," I answer.
They look at me seriously. I feel so powerful; I'm one hundred percent sure I can convince all three to kill for me now.
