Magic in the Air
by OnemoreEncore
Part Three
The Arrival of the Dark Ones
The Giants were huge;
The Golems were smaller.
But none could say
They were anything less than brothers.
From the Earth-Child's touch they came
The Giants sprang from the Earth
And the Golems of rock and stone
Had comforted the child's hurt.
Both were beings of magic;
Living as long as the land lived
But now the land was threatened
And a dark foe came from the Northern Cliffs.
The Golems were the first to know;
The coming of the Dark Ones.
Like an army of Earth-Children
But none like the old child of the Sun.
Terrible and powerful were these Ones
Greater than any being and worse
Except for the Giants and Golems
Who decided to stop the world from their curse.
At the peak of the Capped Mount they met
And the Golems broke the Dark Ones' ranks
Tearing and destroying the weaker ones
But driven back by the superior Danks.
These corrupted dragons of snow lunged at the Golems
Shattering their rocky torsos and arms
But the timely arrival of the Giants
Managed to save the Golems from harm.
The Giants took on the Danks;
And the Golems struggled against the Dark Ones
And there was a long, long stalemate
Where no side seemed to be able to have won.
The Avatars of Rock held their ground
At the Charge of the Capped Mount
If not for their king Stoneheart
They would have snapped, down for the count.
Stoneheart gripped his stony blade with stony hands;
Slaying any that came near
And when the Golems needed him most
He rallied their ranks in a cheer.
The Golems suffered huge losses
But the Giants had much more men,
And the few avatars who remained
Were the best, strongest of the land.
Stoneheart was felled by an onslaught
His body shattered and spread to the ground
The Giant-leader, his brother Dree the Large,
Cried tears of sorrow for his dying sound.
And so the Golems went back to their cave-homes
Going back a dying breed
Their magic was forever lost
Now only Giants know the Golems' need.
The Dragons were called upon;
The Elves joined their army
And the land would not have seen
A force to rival this, if any.
The Elves fell by the dozen;
The Dark Ones were pushed back;
The Dragons fought their dark relations
Both in the light an in the black
In blue fire; as well as red
The frost of Capped Mount thawed
To reveal a horde of Trolls
Who at the Elves they clawed.
The Danks were suppressed;
The Dragons left
But now the Dark Ones
Had risen again from the cleft.
In the form of Trolls they fought the Giants
Some Ogres came along to assist;
In the end the Giants retreated
No one left to keep the dark advance in shift.
But the Fairies kept protecting the lands' dreams;
And they were the most important
For if Fairies fell
The Dark Ones would surge on like a torrent.
