Chapter 4 - A Change of Events

~time skip 2 years~

~August~

2 years have passed since Sothe and Micaiah married. They were still without any child, but they thought that they won't rush into it. However, the past few months Micaiah was thinking about having a child, but never told Sothe, thinking he might not be ready to.

This changed when their war friends, heron princess Leanne and raven king Naesala had a birth complication, they're child was stillborn. At first Sanaki was going to hold a little get together in Begnion for the birth of their child, but when she heard of the news, she didn't cancel it, but held it to comfort the two. All of the royalty attended, even other war comrades. Ike and Elincia came, but left their one year old daughter Kaitlin in the care of Elincia's uncle Renning. Jill and Haar didn't come after Jill gave birth to their twin sons, who were about 10 months old, Lethe and Ranulf didn't come due to Lethe being pregnant, same with Marcia and Kieran.

The get together wasn't a very happy one. The males sat and spoke in one room, while the females did the same in another. Elincia tried speaking to a crying Leanne but it failed as she curled up her body into a ball on the chair. She couldn't mention her Kaitlin, or that would make Leanne feel worse. She stayed quiet from talking about hers and Ike's toddler. Sanaki couldn't speak of experience due to her being only 16. Micaiah started feeling bad about seeing Leanne in pain, what came out of her womb dead. The silver haired queen of Daein stood up slowly and a bit shyly
"Leanne please do not cry anymore...it hurts to see you in such pain.." She started
"I don't know why some babies are born dead. But why us?!" she broke out in ancient tongue. Micaiah then proceeded to embrace the taller but more frail heron and hushed her, telling her it would be okay
"If you want...try again with Naesala. I bet he's hurting too and wants to try again. I'm sure if you two do, it will be successful" she spoke softly. She could have told that Naesala wanted to try again, the heron blood in Micaiah's veins made her able to sing heron songs (galdr) and peer into the hearts of others.

In the opposite room, Ike stayed silent for most of the time, still wondering if Kaitlin's first night without her parents didn't result in her bawling down the whole of castle Crimea. Sothe, Tibarn, Reyson and Rafiel comforted Naesala and tried telling him if Leanne was ready, try again.

~time skip 2 weeks~
At this time, Micaiah and Sothe decided to visit Begnion to look around Serenes Forest, former home of the herons before the massacre which happened 2 years before Micaiah's birth. Sanaki joined them and went picking flowers for her guardians Sigrun and Tanith, as thanks for all they have done for the past 16 years. They sat down to eat lunch and Micaiah was petting a bird other than her bird companion Yune who was actually the goddess of chaos. Whilst they were idly chattering, Leanne and Naesala walked up to them, happening to be in the area.
"Hi everyone..thanks for supporting us back then. Thank you Micaiah for telling me to try again. We did so and we conceived!" Leanne spoke in ancient tongue, Naesala bending and hugging her still flat abdomen. Sothe looked at Micaiah while she acknowledged the thanks and smiled. "Micaiah always seemed to be the motherly type..she would make a great mother in all.." Sothe thought to himself, looking at Micaiah smile as she turned to face him and smile at him, making him blush and turn away, making her smile even more. She was beautiful. He didn't want to just mate with her and leave her for nine months with a life inside her only to go through excruciating pain to give birth. He didn't want to leave her with that burden. Maybe he could talk it through with her

When they returned home in Daein, the night they returned home they held a conversation in bed
"Micaiah... I've been thinking.." Sothe started, hugging his beloved wife from behind
"You know I can already tell, I can tell what your heart says..." She responded, holding his hand
"Well... I was thinking about how you helped Leanne feel better and told her to try again, and it made me feel like you would be a great mother.." he continued, beginning to explain the cons of it to her. She didn't frown once. She was thinking of a baby for a few months but didn't want to tell him.
"Sothe I'm totally fine with all of that. I would love to be a mother one day, I know you would make a great father..." she whispered, making her beloved blush hard. He tried to forget the time they were being intimate and she ended up peeing on his lap accidentally. He understood that she was probably nervous, but would be a little better with it now. Micaiah reached up to kiss Sothe and blew out the candle. They felt better just being alone
