Dinner

As I am walking out to my car I hear someone call my name, "Shay!" I stop and turn around to see its Kevin with that smile. "What?" I ask. He stops in front of me and begins to speak "Yesterday you said I could come over to do our project." I did? O, didn't I, can't believe I forgot, im not use to inviting people over. "O, right, ill give you a ride." He nods, and I continue to walk to my car with Kevin walking next to me. Once we get there he gets ahead of me and opens the door for me. "Thanks" I say smiling, he smirked at me and jogs over to the passenger side and gets in.

When we pull up to my house I see my moms car in the drive way. When I go inside I see my mom cooking supper. "Hey mom, smells good." "Thanks sweety, how was your day?" she ask without turning around. "Okay, well im going to go upstairs with Kevin to do our project." "Okay, fun, and Kevin would you like to stay for supper?" "Sure." "Good, now go do your project." We run upstairs and Kevin shuts the door. I grab my laptop and hand it to Kevin, "Here, look up some pictures and add them to the Powerpoint while I do the poster." So we have decided to do a Powerpoint and a poster. Since im so good at art im doing the poster and Kevin's doing the Powerpoint.

To pass the time we just made small talk, "So how old are you Shay?" "17, April 20th, 1998, you?" "18, July 14th, 1997." "So Shay....what you doing this Saturday?" Kevin asked Shay nervously. "Nothing, why?" "Well I was wondering if you want to go somewhere to eat?" "Sure" I said smiling. Kevin smirks, relief reflecting in his eyes. So we worked the rest of the time in a comfortable silence.

2 hour later.....

"Kids time to eat!" I heard my mom yell from downstairs. Kevin and I get everything cleaned up and head downstairs. "Looks great mom." "Thanks dear, now help me get the table set, please." Once we got everything set we sat down and began to eat. During the meal we just made small talk, "So Kevin What brings you here?" my mom ask. "My dad, new job." "I hope you are settling in well?" "Quit fine, miss." he says smiling while glancing at me making me blush a little. My mom glanced at us but thankfully she didn't say anything. Once we finished I helped my mom clean up the meal, Kevin and me were washing the dishes, while my mom was putting what was left after dinner.

We get the dishes done and everything is cleaned up. "Well thanks for dinner Megan, I better get going." "I'll walk you out." I say and he smiles at me and opens the door for me. "Well that was nice, your moms a great cook." "Thanks, well see you tomorrow." I say smiling. He steps closer to me and for a split second I thought he was going to kiss me but instead he gives me a friendly hug, which I return. Why do I feel dissapointed? We barely know each other, but yet im starting to like Kevin. I can't wait for Saturday. When he releases me he gives me a wink and start to walk home.

When I went inside I checked what time it was, 8:23 pm, still early so I decided to watch a movie with my mom on Netflix. We picked Into the Woods, we had popcorn and talked a little, "So Shay anything going on between you and Kevin?" my mom asked with a amused glance at me. I blush, "Nothing we are just friends." "okay, if you say so" my mom says glancing at me one more time before turning back to the movie. When the movie was over I gave my mom a kiss and went to bed.

I wake up to the sound of my phone going of. I groan and roll over to check my phone, I got a text message, and its from Kevin. How did he get my number? I read it and it says, "I'lll pick you up at 7:00." For what? O, right were having dinner. I check the time, 9:45 am, feeling hungry I roll out of bed and change into a pair of jeans and a blue tank top. Once I reached the bottom of the stairs and walk into the kitchen I see a note on the table. "Sorry honni, had to go to work early, have a good day. I will be working late tonight, love you." My mom is a cop, pretty cool I know, she gives me pepper spray and some knives, ones in my shoe at all times, to protect me, the reason why she is giving me these things not just because I am her daughter but because of my father, he use to beat my mom and make me watch when I misbehaved. One day while my dad was gone my mom snuck me out and we left, I have never heard about him and my mom never brought him up again I was only 8 when it happened and my mom is scared he will find us and hurt me. Im kind of glad she is working late cause at least she won't question me where I have been, I don't want her getting the wrong idea. I put the note down and decide to cook some eggs and toast.

While im putting the toast in the toaster, I hear the front door being opened. I turn around to see its Casie. "Hey Casie" I say smiling glad to see her. "Hey Shay, hope you don't mind me dropping by" we says with a smile, knowing I don't mind at all. "Of course not! Your always welcome, you want some eggs and toast?" "Sure" she says grinning.

Casie and I were sitting down eating and just talking and laughing. "So what you doing tonight Shay?" Casie asked before stuffing her mouth. "Um, im going out for dinner tonight" I say nervously, "And who are you going with?" Casie asked after she finished chewing, "Kevin" I say in a small voice. "Oh really, well I hope you guys have fun" amusement in her eyes. "So you have your eyes on anyone?" I ask trying to change the subject. "Maybe...." Casie says a shyly. "And who may that be?" I ask with amusement in my voice. "Tony..." she says quietly. "Tony Gilbert?" I ask a little surprised. Casie nods her head, blushing. "I had no clue" "I don't think he feels the same and it is just a little crush" Casie says like she was talking about the weather. Not convinced but I let it go.

Once we finish we clean up and head upstairs to talk. I close the door behind me and fall on my bed with a sigh. I feel Casie slide up next to me. I close my eyes glad today I don't have school and get to spending time with my best friend. We just laid there in silence for a few minutes, when I hear Casie take a intake of breath, "What you going to wear?" Casie asked out of the blue, that makes me open my eyes "Um, I don't know, can you help me?" I ask knowing Casie knows a few things about fashion. "Sure" Casie says getting up with a big grin on her face. She grabs my arm and pulls me to my closet. She lets go of me arm and starts going through my dresses, which I don't have many of. She grabs a dress and hold it out to me. "Here" she says with excitement evident in her voice. It was a dark blue satin dress with one shoulder has a strap and the other shoulder without a strap. I grab the dress and walk into the bathroom and close the door. Once I slip into the dress which fits perfectly, I look in them mirror and my mouth almost drops open, I look beautiful, I do a little spin while a big grin is stuck on my face. I open the door to show Casie, I see Casie gaping at me, "You look amazing in that dress" she says almost in a whisper. "Thanks, I really like it" I say with a ssmile still on my face. "Well we have found your dress, go take it off and I will help you with your make up." Casie says smiling. I nods and go back in the bathroom, take off the dress and get my other clothes back on and hang up the dress. "So when is he coming to get you?" "7:00" Casie smiles and says, "Well its 11:34, we have a while lets get your nails done and pick out your make up"
