"Firey?" She called from behind the bathroom door.

"Yes?" I said.

It clicked open and she stepped into the room. She wore a sundress and sneakers. "Is this the right clothes to wear?"

I shrugged. "Think so. I've never done this before."

"Me either." She stuck her hands in the pockets of the dress. "I figured sneakers would be better than something open toed. For the train and stuff."

A thought crossed my mind that slightly worried me. "Am I dressed alright?"

"Let's find out," said Leafy, grinning. She grabbed my hand.

"Right. Let's do this thing."

Though we'd been staying here nearly a week at this point, I still hadn't quite gotten used to stepping outside and being in Paris. It wasn't exactly like the movies, of course, but it was kind of... magical?

And, damn, for a foodie- it was heaven. I had already had gelato four times, and I wasn't planning on leaving without at least one more.

The train was crowded, and it smelled abysmal. I had to remind myself it was still a city. Beautiful, but a city.

I'm not an introvert, but even I was beginning to get uncomfortable with the amount of bodies rubbing against mine. What time was it? Oh, 6. People were probably all out and about now.

Once we finally arrived in the station, we were able to breathe. "I think we should get a cab back," said Leafy, sharing my sentiment.

"We haven't even gotten there, and you're already worried about leaving?" I teased. She lightly punched me in the arm.

"I'm a cynic. What can I say?" She laughed, and I gave her a quick peck on the lips. The two of us were slightly less wary about PDA in this foreign country, but paparazzi was always in the back of our minds. "This place is packed," she whispered. "There are probably other Americans here."

I nodded. The kisses would have to wait for later, when we were alone.

We walked side by side up to a stairwell. The steps were steep, and a bit of a pain to climb, but once we did, it was worth it.

The view was like no other.

Right in front of us lay a small chain link fence, covered with love-locks, and the Eiffel Tower. It was all unreal.

We navigated to the front of the crowd. "This is crazy," breathed Leafy. "And I've seen some crazy shit in my day."

"I know..." I turned my attention to the padlocks. "I should've brought a lock."

Leafy hadn't stopped smiling since we'd gotten here. "It's alright. We're both here. That's the important part."

I spun around, taking it all in. I noticed a man selling locks. I pointed him out to Leafy, who shook her head. "Don't worry, it's not worth it."

I played dumb. But I knew what she meant. I spoke zero French beyond 'bonjour' and 'oui,' so I was setting myself up to get swindled out of my money. I didn't really care. I had plenty to spare, at the moment.

Once the transaction was complete, I was down $20 whole dollars.

But we were up one love-lock.

We wrote our initials, and put it on the fence. Leafy's smile softened. "This is dumb, since I like just told you no, but... I don't care," she said.

And then she kissed me. In front of everyone.

And I'd never been happier.

Leafy n Firey in Paris. Yippee.
