Without hesitation, Neuvillette reached into his pocket and withdrew the requested amount, counting out the bills with meticulous precision before handing them over to Tartaglia.

"Agreed," he said simply, his voice devoid of emotion as he pushed the stack of Mora towards Tartaglia. Tartaglia's smirk widened into a grin as he pocketed the money, his eyes gleaming with satisfaction.
"A pleasure doing business with you, Chief Justice," he said, his tone dripping with smugness. "Y/N! Come down!"

From the doorway, Neuvillette could see you descend the stairs cautiously, unsure of the negotiation outcome. His eyes widened upon seeing your outfit - a stark contrast to the diligent and elegant girl he had felt a deep care for at work. You wore a white, tight-fitting crop top with high-waisted blue denim shorts. Approaching Tartaglia, you wore a concerned expression.
"I-is everything okay, Tartaglia?" you softly asked, hoping that the plan worked. Neuvillette merely raised an eyebrow; your performance to him was indeed impressive.
"You whore, I am finally so glad to get rid of you at a decent price. Monsieur Neuvillette here will be your new Master, and you are to go live with him right now. Go pack," Tartaglia sneered, his ocean eyes shining with greed. Lowering your head, you trembled slightly, before slowly plodding back upstairs to gather your belongings.

After a short while, you returned with a small, brown suitcase, eyes watery.
"Honey...are you sure you wanna do this? I don't want to leave!" you whined, yet you feared that Tartaglia would actually heed this advice. Nevertheless, you needed to prevent any suspicions arising.
Tartaglia glanced over at you with a sadistic smile. Scanning your pouting face, he let out a cruel, sharp laugh.
"Don't act all sad and innocent. I already know you're a slut. I don't want you here anymore, I can't stand it! I'm sick of you."
Neuvillette, who had carefully watched this scene unfold till now, slowly raised a hand to try to intervene. He was no longer sure if this was an act anymore. As the glisten in your eyes became more prominent, you opened your arms to hug Tartaglia, who froze, caught off guard. Why does this suddenly hurt? You tried to mentally process your emotions - why did you feel so attached? Yet there was no time to figure this out, as you stumbled back into Neuvillette, who caught you with strong, steady arms. For a moment, you were acutely aware of the manner that Neuvillette caught you, and how he flexed his hands away, so as to not touch your body.

"I said, don't try to pretend that you are innocent! I cannot stand the sight of you! So get away from me...I do not love you, I never did, Y/N! You were just a convenient source of pleasure and money."

You furrowed your brows, and your mind was blank. The words echoed throughout your being, and your feet felt glued to the ground. He never loved me - these words repeated in a loop, constantly, with each loop being more solidified than the last.
Neuvillette's arm guided you into the carriage, away from Tartaglia - yet Neuvillette couldn't guide you away from what was said. Did I waste my time with Tartaglia? Why did I give so much up for hi-
"I know that must have been traumatic...I should have prevented Tartaglia from treating you that way. It was a horrifying interaction." Neuvillette's quiet and soft words broke the heavy buzz of your mind, and the restlessness in your heart. You returned to the present, where you were sat beside Neuvillette in his carriage, never to return back to Tartaglia and his club or demands. With a small smile, your tears shifted to those of a burden being lifted.
"I've finally escaped from his clutches!" you tearfully tried to cheer.
"Yes, that is what matters most, Y/N. Yet I should have thought of your wellbeing when I agreed to the plan though. I still feel some sense of shame that I allowed such a scene to escala-"

The Iudex of Fontaine was taken aback by your tight hug. Your arms were comfortably wrapped around him, whilst your head rested on his chest. There was a long silence between the two of you, where the only sound present was the clickety-clack of the elegant carriage. You wondered whether this would negatively affect professionalism between the two of you, but you didn't care. Neuvillette was the reason behind your freedom. He saved you. Your breath hitched as you unexpectedly felt Neuvillette's arms holding you in return, a gentle, meaningful embrace. Closing your eyes, you were soothed by how his soft breathing filled your ear, alongside his fingers lightly and softly stroking your hair, as if you were the only thing that mattered to him.

"You deserve to be treated with kindness and comfort...and I wish to give that to you. I will ensure that you are treated with the highest respect, Y/N. I will not give you any reason to live in fear."

And with that, the Chief Justice separated from the hug slowly, with care, and smiled softly at you - a tender, small smile. Why was this so cute? You didn't know. Clasping your hands on your lap, you stared out of the window; you frowned upon not recognising the route - where is this carriage going? Pointing outside, you turned to Neuvillette.
"Chief Justice, where are we going? This seems to be a different route Sir?"
"We are going to town. I would like to take you out, Y/N," Neuvillette calmly responded. You, on the other hand, didn't understand this.
"Take me out? What for, Sir? And why, i...if you don't mind me asking."
"Not at all, Y/N. I would like to buy you new clothing, particularly outfits that reflect how elegant and intelligent you truly are. I would like you to shine."
You blushed slightly at the sweet gesture, but you also did not want Neuvillette to pay for your clothing.

After ten minutes, the carriage slowed to a stop. Neuvillette exited the carriage first, before opening the door on your side and extending his hand.
"Let us go shopping, Y/N," he smiled kindly at you, eyes twinkling. You shyly accepted his hand; your chest felt jittery upon how gently he held your hand as you stepped down from the carriage.
The town was not too busy, but this did not stop passers-by from stopping to stare at how openly the Chief Justice held your hand. As your gaze flicked from person to person, you considered pulling away casually for the sake of Neuvillette's reputation. However, when you tried, he only held your hand resolutely, refusing to let go.
Leading you into a dress shop, your heart began to beat faster after seeing the high-quality of this shop. The floor tiles gleamed with prosperity, and the sales assistants did not have a hair out of place. You immediately turned to leave.
"I have a shop I want to go to, Sir, let's go," you babbled quickly, before pulling Neuvillette along with you. You both continued your journey for a moment, with Neuvillette wearing an intrigued expression, before you both arrived at a pawn shop. Staring up at the sign, Neuvillette's gaze swept over your body, taking in the glittery earrings, bracelets, and waist chain that you were adorned with.
"Are you sure, Y/N? I insist on paying for everything today, please do allow me."
You shook your head stubbornly, whilst slowly retracting your hand from his grip.
"I'll be back, Sir. Please forgive me for digressing from your wishes."

A while later, you emerged from the run-down store holding a bag of Mora. Handing the bag and receipt to the Chief Justice, you relaxedly smiled as his eyes scanned the total Mora amount stated on the small paper.
"Are you sure this is okay, Y/N? Do you not have any emotional attachment to these jewels? They seem to be appraised highly, so may be of high rarity. Are you happy to be rid of these?" Neuvillette asked, slight worry in his tone.
"I do not wish to have any connection with Tartaglia, Sir," you declared, the words feeling freeing to say. Neuvillette nodded, slipping his hand into yours. And with that, both of you returned, side by side, to the dress shop again.
