The mission at the Hydra base had been a success, but Wanda and Pietro's minds focused on getting back to Keven. As they made their way through the war-torn streets of Novi Grad, the twins moved with urgency, their enhanced speed and agility allowing them to navigate the rubble and debris easily.
Wanda's heart raced as they approached the old neighbor's house where they had left Keven. She prayed that her daughter was safe and unharmed. Pietro knocked on the door, and the elderly woman answered, her face etched with concern.
"Thank goodness you're back," she said, ushering them inside. "Keven's been beside herself with worry."
At the sound of her mother's voice, Keven came running, throwing herself into Wanda's arms. "Mama! Uncle Pietro! You came back!"
Wanda held her daughter tightly, tears streaming down her face. "Of course we did, my love. I promised you I would."
Pietro ruffled Keven's hair affectionately. "We'd never leave you behind, little one."
After thanking the neighbor for watching over Keven, the Maximoffs set out into the city, searching for a safe place to regroup and plan their next move. As they walked, Wanda and Pietro filled Keven in on the basics of what had happened, careful not to divulge too many details about the darker aspects of their mission.
Cautiously, they approached the crumbling structure of the church they were summoned to, Wanda instinctively shielding Keven behind her.
Inside, they found a figure sitting in a chair facing away from them, a cloth draped over him.
Wanda: "Talk. And if you are wasting our time..."
Ultron: "Did you know this church is in the exact center of the city? The elders decreed it so that everyone could be equally close to God. I like it. The geometry of belief." "You're wondering why you can't look inside my head."
Curiously, Keven peeks her head from behind her mother, wondering who this person, or in his case, machine, was. Slowly, stepping out from behind Wanda, Keven stands proudly next to her mother, ready to protect the family.
Wanda: "Sometimes it's hard. But sooner or later, every man shows himself." Watching Keven out of the corner of her eye.
Ultron stands up and faces the twins and Keven. Wanda takes a brief step back wearing a shocked expression. While Keven stood in place with a tilt of her head, intrigued by the giant robot man. Looking down at the little one, Ultron flashed her a smile.
Ultron: "Oh, I'm sure they do." Looking back at Wanda "But you needed something more than a man. That's why you let Stark take the scepter."
Wanda: "I didn't expect... But I saw Stark's fear, I knew it would control him, make him self-destruct.
Ultron: "Everyone creates the thing the dread. Men of peace create engines of war, invaders create avengers, people create...smaller people? Uh...children! I lost the word there. Children. Designed to support them, to help them...end."
Keven: "I'm a 'Children'." She stared at Ultron.
Ultron chuckled, a strangely human sound coming from his metallic form. "True, my dear child. But you are of a rare breed. Very similar to your mother but with a hint of more variety."
Keven wondered what he meant by that, and so did Wanda and Pietro.Wanda: "Is that why you've come? To end the Avengers?"
Ultron: I've come to save the world. But also... yeah."
Wanda and Pietro exchanged wary glances, unsure of this creature so willing to help them. The twins were a bit hesitant, torn between their distrust of this strange being and the allure of his words.
