"Hey, don't say that!" Lev protested, and Yaku scoffed.

"You really think you can beat that?" The shorter boy gestured towards Kuroo, who was diving and receiving the volleyball with almost perfect precision. "It takes years to get as good as that! Face it, beanstalk! You're a rookie, and you'll lose."

"He's not that good..." Lev grumbled, crossing his arms and frowning.

"Don't fucking flatter yourself." Yaku scoffed, shaking his head as he sat down, watching as Kuroo repeatedly dove for the ball.

"...This is so stupid..." Kenma muttered as he continuously threw the ball for Kuroo over and over again. "We get it, you can play. No need to show off." Kuroo only smirked up at the shorter boy.

"You sure you don't want to see me keep going~? Because I could go all night long~" The rooster-haired boy said in a flirtatious tone, and Kenma groaned.

"Once again!" Yamamoto called out from the opposite side of the court. He had been watching this happen from a distance, amused. "That's not very straight of you, Rooster-head!" The smile on Kuroo's face faltered slightly, an incredulous look replacing it.

"Rooster-head?" He scoffed, and Kenma snickered.

"You're hair, dumbass. It makes you look like a rooster."

"Hey!" Kuroo protested. "It's my bed-hair!"

"How the fuck do you sleep if that's what your hair looks like when you wake up?" Kenma looked confused, and Kuroo smirked.

"Wouldn't you like to know~" He said, his voice deepening slightly, and Kenma's jaw dropped.

"What the fuck?! Ew, no! Get away." Kenma scurried away towards Yaku, who was laughing. A different pair of footsteps filled the Gym, and everyone turned to see that Coach Nekomata had returned. He had a pissed-off smile on his lips, and Kai winced.

"Why is no one training?" He barked, and the boys jumped into high gear, quickly getting ready to train.

----

Kuroo panted, sweat dripping down his forehead. He raised a toned arm to wipe it off, panting slightly. The team had just gotten a two minute break, and Kuroo definitely needed and appreciated it. It had been an intense training session, to say the least. The old school that he played volleyball at was a cupcake school, and so they didn't exactly train this hard or long. But Kuroo didn't care. He loved the game, seeing a team work like a well-oiled machine, the look on the other team's face knowing that they've been defeated before the first set even begins... Not to mention, the adrenaline rush was a thrill. It distracts him, and that was what he liked about the sport. Except, since joining Nekoma's volleyball team, there's been something else distracting him too.

Kenma Kozume.

Kuroo couldn't seem to keep his eyes off the pudding-haired teen, and he didn't know why. Maybe it was his aloof nature, or his golden, cat-like eyes that seemed to shine in the sunlight, but just the thought of the second-year caused Kuroo's heart to almost explode in his chest. It wasn't like any crush he had on a girl before: Those had all been half-hearted, one-night stands, but just looking at Kenma on the other side of the court, talking in an annoyed tone to Yaku, Kuroo's heart did somersaults, and he was afraid the others would be able to hear it. It wiped all thoughts of those previous hook-ups out of the water. To say he was confused was an understatement. Kuroo was straight, he hadn't been lying about that. His parents were religious. He couldn't like a boy, could he...?

But for some reason, Kuroo couldn't help but flirt with the younger boy, couldn't help but tease him. With a deep sigh, Kuroo turned away, going towards the bleachers where his water bottle was. 'This could be a fun little... experiment'. He thought, taking a sip of his water.

The girls he had previously had a crush on fell for his smile, for his charisma and for his looks. He just had to smile towards them and he could get anything he wanted. But it was different with Kenma. A smile triggered a frown and scowl. A flirtatious comment triggered an annoyed look. It interested Kuroo, and he wanted to find out more...

----

Kenma instantly didn't like Kuroo, and it was a straight fact in Yaku's eyes. The way Kenma glared at the older boy, how he instantly disliked and dismissed him...

So why, right now, was Kenma glancing every now and then at him?

The first time Yaku had caught Kenma looking at the rooster-haired teen, he initially thought Kenma was judging him. At the time, he probably was, but it didn't explain the continuous looks and the small pauses when Kuroo did something impressive. As much as the pudding-haired boy tried to dismiss it, he was interested. Even now, Kenma watched as Kuroo drank out of his water bottle on the opposite side of the court. Yaku couldn't read Kenma's face, he was good at hiding small things like that and wiping them off his face. The staring confused Yaku, but he didn't say anything. As honest as Yaku was, he wasn't going to bring up an uncomfortable conversation for the sake of answers. But, that didn't mean he was above prodding at the situation.

"So, what do you think of the new member?" Yaku asked Kenma carefully, noticing how the latter's head whipped around, as if caught in the act.

"You mean rooster-boy over there?" Kenma gave Kuroo an annoyed look. "...He's a good player," was all that Kenma said, turning back around to his video game.

"Really? Just that?" He asked, and Kenma frowned.

"Why, what did you want me to say?" Kenma challenged, and Yaku shrugged.

"I dunno, something about his personality maybe?" Yaku suggested, and the latter scoffed.

"His personality is shit." With that sentence, Kenma walked away, his head buried into his Nintendo Switch the rest of the break. Yamamoto walked over, using the smaller boy's head as an armrest.

"...They're gonna get together, aren't they?" He asked.

"Yep." Yaku responded with a sigh and nod, and the two of them left to get a quick drink before the session continued.
