Mama was moving the couch cushions when I waddled into the living room, dragging my favorite blankie behind me. I stopped and blinked, my eyes going big as I saw her stacking pillows and fluffing up blankets.

"Mama? What are you doing?" I asked, tilting my head.

Mama turned around and gave me the biggest smile. "Hi, baby girl! We're building a fort tonight, remember? It's movie night! Snacks, cuddles, and all your favorite shows."

My heart gave a happy jump. I had totally remembered! I just got so excited seeing it start to come together. "A fort! Like a castle?"

Mama knelt down and held out her arms. "Exactly like a castle for my little princess. Do you want to be my special helper?"

I ran right into her hug, squealing. "Yes, yes, yes, Mama! I'm your helper!"

She lifted me up and spun me around, making my giggles bounce off the walls. When she set me down, she smoothed my hair and gave my nose a soft boop. "Alright, sweet pea. First, we need all the pillows. Can you find some for us?"

I nodded so hard my curls bounced, then zoomed off to grab the pillows from the couch. They were big and fluffy, and I hugged them tight as I carried them back to Mama.

"Look, Mama! I got these ones!" I plopped them down right where she pointed.

"Good job, baby! You're so strong," Mama praised, giving me a kiss on my cheek. "Now we need the blankets. Let's use all the softest ones."

I grabbed my blankie and showed it proudly. "This one! This one is the bestest soft."

Mama chuckled. "Perfect choice, sweetie. We'll use it for the roof so we can look up at it while we snuggle."

She stretched the biggest blanket—the one with stars and moons—over the back of the couch and the armchair. I held onto one corner, pulling it tight like Mama showed me.

"You're my best helper," Mama said as she tucked in the edges. "Can you hold this pillow steady while Mama stacks more on top?"

I grabbed the pillow with both hands and hugged it. "Got it, Mama!"

She worked so fast and careful, her hands swooshing and patting until the whole fort stood tall and cozy. When it was done, Mama crouched down and peeked inside.

"Look, baby girl! It's our secret hideout. Want to see?"

I crawled in, my eyes getting all big and sparkly. "It's so big! And soft! Mama, we did it!"

Mama smiled, her eyes crinkling at the corners. "We sure did, my love. Now let's get the snacks."

She brought a big bowl of popcorn, some juice boxes, and my favorite cookies. I helped carry a napkin because that was my size of helping. Mama arranged everything just right inside the fort. Then she plopped down with a happy sigh, and I wiggled into her lap.

"You ready for the best movie night ever?" she whispered, wrapping her arms around me.

I nodded, hugging my blankie. "The very best, Mama."

The TV flickered on, and the glow filled our fort with cozy light. As my favorite show began, I nibbled on popcorn and sipped from my juice box, feeling like the luckiest little girl in the world. Mama's hands stroked my back, and her heartbeat thumped a soft lullaby against my cheek.

Our fort was perfect, just like Mama promised. A secret castle filled with love, snacks, and all the cuddles. My eyes started getting heavy, but I didn't want the night to end. As long as Mama held me close, I wanted to stay in our fort forever.
