EARTH
AUGUSTINE HOUSE
Children most of the time are happy and well contented. They never have to worry about starvation or disease. They never give a second thought about death or survival. However, that was the old Earth, the old economy. Nowadays, children worry when their next meal will be and hope they live long before the pollutions eat away at them. They worry if they will live long enough to see the next day or will they see their loved ones suffer more.
Emily Augustine, while she was better off than most 9-year-olds still suffered. The pollutions on the earth were unforgiving especially on children often leaving them deformed or scarred. Emily's skin had blotches and blemishes on her skin. Her entire right eye was covered in a red spot that often burned and itched.
Emily was fortunate for her mother, who loved her immensely and deeply. Emily's mother was the legendary Grace Augustine. Her mother studied the planet called Pandora and its occupants. She wrote books and studied the planet. Emily loved reading her books and often dreamed of going to Pandora same as her mother.
Emily feared however, that her mother would be forced to leave her behind because while Pandora was beautiful it wasn't without danger. Emily feared her mother wouldn't want her on the dangerous planet.
Emily was pulled from her thoughts as she heard the door open. "Spot! I'm home!" Emily heard her mother called. Her mother affectionally nicknamed her spot due to blotch on her eye. "Hey momma." Emily said hugging her mom. Emily was the shorter side with her head reaching her mother's belly. "Hey, I got some news to share. Come on, let's sit." Her mother said leading her to the couch. "Is everything okay?" Emily asked.
"I've got a position to go to Pandora." Her mother started off. Emily's smile faltered for a second her fears coming to light. "And you get to go with." Emily blinked taking a moment to process before yelling in delight.
Her mother chuckles. "Alright, if you're this excited Spot you'll be even more excited to hear you've got your own avatar." "OH MY GOSH! REALLY!" Emily was practically jumping from the couch in pure happiness. "Yes, this one is special took a lot of engineering, but we managed to make the avatar grow with you. As you age so will your avatar." Grace said laughing as her daughter jumped into her arms thanking her many times.
Both mother and daughter were joyous to leave for Pandora and spend time together.

PANDORA
GRACE'S SCHOOL
"Come on momma! I was supposed to meet Ney'tiri an hour ago!" Emily called to her mother dragging by her arm to the link room. Upon arriving on Pandora many years ago her mother and her got to work on developing relations with the natives. They opened a school where they could teach the children English and other things. Emily had developed a close sibling bond with Sylwanin and Ney'tiri. She was closer with Ney'tiri as they were closer in age.
As the mother-daughter duo entered the link room Emily dropped her mother's arm rushing over to her link bed. She got herself in pulling the lid shut as the scientist pressed the buttons on the monitor. Emily closed her eyes feeling the tug on her brain. She saw the vortex of colors before she opened her eyes in her avatar.
Her mother was beside her watching fondly as Emily's met up with Ney'tiri at the schoolhouse. "Kita! I was worried! You were supposed to arrive earlier." Ney'tiri said as she held her friend in her arms. "I'm fine Tiri mom just had a late start. Where's Sylwanin? Is she not coming?" Emily asked her friend. Emily was known as Kita to the Na'vi. They all noticed how Emily took to the Na'vi way as if she was born to them. They even given her a Na'vi name.
"No, she is still angry about the Sky People's work." Ney'tiri told her. Emily held a sad look before they were all called inside the school as her mother. Emily was working with Ney'tiri on her English. Mainly her pronunciation. Everything was going great until the sound of yells and yips startled everyone. Emily watched as everything became a blur. One moment Sylwanin was in the doorway and the next she was dead. The cries of Ney'tiri and the other children rang in her ears. Emily ducked as gunshots flooded the building. She heard the yells of her mother and before she knew it Emily's feet was moving.
She didn't know how long she ran or how far she was but by the time she stopped she was lost. She was alone and scared. Her arm was bleeding from a bullet graze and her lungs were sore. Emily jumped at every sound. She had never been in the forest alone. She knew how dangerous it was for someone untrained to be in the forest. Emily wandered trying to find anything that could provide shelter for her avatar body.
She knew she couldn't link back until this body was safe. Emily noticed it was getting dark which made her more scared. Emily desperate for any help sent a prayer to Eywa. She knew the Na'vi goddess and while she may not be Na'vi she hopped Eywa would be kind to her. Emily shuddered as it was completely dark. Emily sat down against a tree trunk and cried. She was scared hungry and alone. Emily looked up when she felt a tickling on her head. She saw an Atokirina. It floated in front of her face. Emily turned her head seeing more of them.
She got up as it floated away. She followed after it where she ended up a glowing tree. "Wow!" Emily breathed out in awe as she walked up to the glowing vines of the tree. She noticed a few Atokirina dancing around her braided queue. Emily was confused at first before releasing a small oh in realization. She took her queue and attached it the vine. She gasped as she felt a warm presence. It reminded her of her mother's warm embrace. She smiled softly leaning into the embrace before a vortex as color filled her vision. She gasped loudly as her queue disconnected and she fell to the ground. The last thing she saw was the glowing vines of the tree.
HELL'S GATE
HUMAN COMPOUND
Grace and a bunch of other scientists gather around Emily's link bed waiting her to come back to her human body. Everyone jumped as alarms went off and the monitors were lit up with red warning signs. Grace cried out as they forced her out of link and opened up the bed. Emily was seizing violently. Grace cried out to the doctors to help as she held her daughter's body. They all rushed around as Emily's body stopped seizing. Her heart stopped. Grace cried woefully as they got the crash cart trying to start her heart again.
It was futile as her heart didn't start up. Grace let out a heart wrenching wail as she hugged her daughter's body. From that day Grace rarely smiled, she began a smoking habit, and the science department lost the childlike light it used to have. Grace's daughter was dead, her human body yes but her avatar lived on. Emily now lived as Kita the adopted daughter of Mo'at and Eytukan and the adopted sister of Ney'tiri.
Kita never forgot on her birth mother but as years went by and she completed her Na'vi training she doubted she'd ever see her mother again. She had planned to live as peacefully as she could in her new home but a new dream walker is about to disrupt her life.
