Ever since I left my human body behind, I've had dreams. I see a man, he's too blurry to make out his looks but somehow, I know he's male. We're flying above the forest and we're laughing. We seem close but then I wake up.
Kita's yellow eyes opened, her pupils dilating as they adjusted to the early morning light. Kita sighed as she remembered the dream. It had been a while since she had the dream. Ney'tiri teased her about her "mystery man" as she called him. Mother thinks it's a sign from Eywa but we're not sure what it means just yet.
Kita pulled back her hammock and swung herself on the branch above. Kita began to make her way through the village hoping to find her sister. She spotted her father. "Father, I see you." Kita said making the hand gesture. "Have seen Ney'tiri?" Kita asked him. "Your sister went out into the forest to scout." Her father replied. Kita nodded bidding them goodbye.
Kita had been adopted by the clan leaders after Ney'tiri had found her body at the Tree of Souls. They brought her back where she discovered she had merged permanently with her avatar. She hasn't had contact with her birth mother since the shooting and from what she could guess was that they probably thought her dead.
Kita grabbed her bow before taking off into the woods. She was tracking her sister when she found another print. Curiosity got the better of her as followed the trail. She scaled a tree when she heard voices. Her ears picked up a familiar voice. Her breath hitched as she saw her birth mom. Well, her avatar. She was with two others. They were new as she had not seen them before.
One of them seemed very out of place. A call made him jump pointing his gun in the direction it came from. The call Kita recognized. It was her sister. Kita gave one last look before taking off returning her sister's call. They met up in the brush. "Sister, I found two dreamwalkers! I am going to track them and kill them. Will you tell father?" Kita asked. "Okay. Be safe." Ney'tiri told her smiling softly as she took off.
I stalked the same dreamwalker from earlier. He seemed to have been separated from the rest. He was very jumpy and paranoid. He held a makeshift spear swinging around not caring about the plants and foliage he damaged. Kita hissed quietly at his stupidity. She nocked at arrow in her bow pulling back ready to end his life when she paused. An atokirina floated down gently setting on the tip of her arrow before floating off.
Kita pulled back curious. She glanced at the male and continued to track him. She followed well into the night. She heard the snarls and cackles of the nantang as they stalked the dreamwalker. Her grip on her bow tightened as she watched him turn his spear into a torch. "skxawng." Kita hissed as she squinted from the light. The forest's bioluminescence left as the fire came alive.
Her muscles tensed as she saw the nantang cornered him. He waved his torch wildly trying to scare them off. She couldn't seem to stop the tiny bit of worry for the dreamwalker. "I don't have all god damn night! Come on!" Kita heard him yell which caused the nantang to begin attacking. Kita quickly nocked an arrow and shot the nantang that had him pinned. She yelled sadly as she stabbed another that had jumped on her. She smacked one with her bow and hissed in a crouched position as the rest ran away.
She glanced over at the male seeing him crouched with a knife. She hissed as she brought a hand up to her face. "Stupid Sky Person." Kita said throwing the torch into the river despite his protests. As he went to fetch it Kita walked to the whimpering nantang that she shot. "I'm sorry brother. Rest now and be with Eywa." Kita whispered giving the creature a mercy kill.
"Look I know you probably don't understand this but uh thank you." Kita didn't respond to his ramblings pulling out her arrow. She needed to get back to Hometree. Her family was probably worried sick. They were very overprotective of her and didn't enjoy her out too long on her own. Kita stood up giving the male a sharp look before walking off.
"Hey wait a second! Where're you going? Wait! I just wanted to say thank you for killing those things." Kita whirled around as he grabbed her arm. She hit him to the ground with her bow. "Damn!" The dreamwalker said. "Do not thank for this! This very sad only!" Kita said to him pointing her bow at his chest. "Okay! I'm sorry! Whatever I did I'm sorry." He replied. "All this is your fault. They didn't have to die." Kita said pacing a bit in front of him. "My fault? They attacked me! How am I the bad guy!?" He said.
Kita snarled pointing her boy back in his chest. "This is your fault." "Woah! Easy." The male said holding a hand up. "You're like a child! Crying out, not knowing what to do." Kita backed up as he stood up slowly. She looked away from him. Her tail swished back and forth angrily. She failed to notice the glances he made to her hands. He noticed similarities between them. "Fine, if you love your little forest friends why not let them kill my ass?" He asked. Kita turned back to look at him curiously. "Why did I save you?" Kita asked. "Yeah why?" He asked back.
Kita paused before answering looking him in the eyes. "You have a strong heart. No fear." Kita told him before adding "But stupid! Ignorant like a child." With that Kita walked off. She heard his steps catching up to her. "Well, if I'm like a child maybe you should teach me." He said. "You Sky People cannot learn. You do not see." Kita said as she gracefully made her way through the forest. "Well then teach me to see." He called as he stumbled after her. "No one can teach you to see." Kita told him as she walked along a tree.
"Come on let's just talk." He said still following after her. "He is so persistent." Kita muttered under her breath irritated. "Where did you learn to speak English? Doctor Augustine's school." He asked. Kita decided to indulge him just a bit. "No. I've always known." "Wait what?" He asked before gasping as he wobbled. Kita grabbed his arm steadying him. "You're like a baby." She told him letting him go. "I need your help." He said to her. "You should not be here." Kita told him waving at him to go.
"Okay then take me with you." He told her. "No. Leave." She told him firmly as she walked ahead. "No." He said stubbornly following her. "No. Leave now!" Kita said switching her languages shoving his chest back. She paused looking up seeing the Atokirina. She watched in awe as the floating towards him. "No Don't." She called grabbing his wrist as he smacked one. He used his other hand to swat at one. "No! Stop!" She told him once again. She let go of him as the Atokirina descended on his body.
"What are they?" He asked. "Atokirina. They're the seeds of the scared tree, very pure spirits." She told him. She breathed out as they all took off. "What was that about?" He asked. Kita regarded him before telling him to follow. She needed mother. She continued before pausing as he got distracted by plants. "Come on!" She called to him. She was taking him to Home Tree. "What's your name?" He called before he fell as something tripped him. Kita heard his grunts and struggles and rushed to his aid. Dropping down she saw Tsu'tey and other hunters. "Calm, people calm! What are you doing here Tsu'tey?" Kita asked. "Your family got worried they sent me out to look for you. What are you doing with him? These demons are forbidden here." He told her. "There has been a sign. This is a matter for the Tsahik." Kita told him. He looked at the dreamwalker before ordering the hunters to grab him. They made their way to Kita's home.
