1. Most were not burnt at the stake during the Salem Witch Trials. They were hanged not burnt. No person guilty of being a witch was ever burnt in the American Colonies because it was against English law. Giles Corey refused to plea guilty or not of witchcraft, but the court eventually found him guilty. He was the only supposed witch in U.S. History to be pressed to death by large stones.
I wonder if that was because he refused to plea either way or if there was another reason. I'll look it up and put it in another chapter. Maybe a little bio type thing on the guy. Tell me if you like the idea or not in the comments so that if you don't like the idea, I don't annoy you guys.
2.Witch hunts did not only target women. To me, this isn't a weird fact because I've watched and read stuff with witches in it before and they've only ever had both men and women as witches, but I guess not everyone has, so is might be weird to them.
During the Trier Witch Trials in Germany, a lot of witches that were men were executed. A lot of these people were authority figures such as priests, judges, and deans of colleges. The first thing I thought of when I saw Deans was a bunch of Deans from Supernatural all over the place like clones. Haha. Off topic sorry.
3. Not all witches are bad. Although most people always picture an evil witch. This really doesn't makes sense, in my opinion, though because the vast majority of us have seen the Wizard of Oz. Although, most people when they hear Wizard of Oz don't think about the good witch; they immediately think of the Wicked Witch of the West.
4. People could be convicted of witchcraft without any solid evidence. This seriously annoys me because the must have killed thousands of innocent lives because of this. Then again, they're all kind of innocent, even the witches, because the witches didn't do anything to hurt them, so. . .
5. No one knows where the word Witch came from. Literally no one! Apparently the closest possible origin was an Old English word. The word was 'wicce' which means female sorceress.
6. People wrote tons of books on hunting witches, especially in the 15th century. This was because there was concern about witches, yet not many people knew how to deal with them. The ones who did, wrote the books obviously.
7. A pope once confirmed witches exist.
8. Laws about witchcraft were in place by the mid 20th century. This explains the whole deal with killing them! They broke the law! Although, it still seems pretty harsh to execute them. I mean, if they used the witch craft to hurt others obviously then I'd understand, but otherwise. I mean, I don't understand, I just understand that's how it works. I'll never understand why though. Sorry that little bit was probably confusing.
9. Witches don't wear pointy hats! Now, this is a shocker. Not! But yeah. Nobody knows the origin of the pointy hat thing.
10. Witches really did fly on broomsticks in a way. My notes don't elaborate on that so I'll tell you more about that in a later chapter once I've done more research.
