What was she supposed to think now, after what Tristan's mother said to her?
Maybe she was the one that forced the relationship on him. She wanted the kisses. She wanted the hugs and cuddles. She came to sleep in his bed every night. But he was the one who did not want to tell anyone about them.
Not showing anything on her face, she went back inside with Ms. Mathews. Tristan was standing there in the kitchen, giving her a look like, "Did you tell her?"
Now that she was upset with him, she looked away and did not bother to give him the satisfaction. She never said a word, it was written all over her face how she felt about Tristan. Only a blind man couldn't see it. Tristan heard how she felt and could have reassured her he felt the same way.
Now she was all confused about everything.
Did she really love him? There was still much to learn about him. She knew he had daddy issues with an absentee father, but meeting his mother now, she wondered if he had mommy issues as well. Was there more to their story besides her walking in on him having sex? Why did he seem so afraid of her?
If she was his first girlfriend, once he got what he wanted from her, would he dump her?
Those thoughts clouded her brain as she walked past Tristan and his mother and headed back upstairs to her room. She did not want to continue the charade with them and feel more uncomfortable. Let Tristan deal with his mother.
She made it to her room, closed the door, and threw herself on the bed. She grabbed her grandmother's journal
Dear Diary,
It's only right that Gregory and I enter this new stage of our marriage. Not only as husband and wife now but as father and mother. Yes, I am pregnant with our first child. To God be the Glory! It was unexpected, but it was very on time. I'm finishing up school and will be able to take some time off when the baby is born before I decide where I want to teach. I love that Gregory lets me decide if I want to stay at home or work.
I want to raise our kids with no gender set rules. They can be and do whatever they want. I know that this is only the first of many babies for Gregory and me. We both want big families. I'm hoping this first one is a boy so we can name him Gregory Jr.
I love this baby more than anything in the world right now. I am the happiest I have ever been.
It still felt great reading her grandmother's words. It was like a book she read, not nonfiction, it felt like fiction. A fairy tale with a happy ever after. Not everyone got one of those.
She could hear Tristan and his mother walking up the stairs. She stiffened a bit, closed the diary, and hoped they would not bother her. She could hear muffled voices, but nothing clear. They made it to Tristan's room and she was glad Tristan fixed the bed. Maybe his mother could tell she spent her nights in bed with him.
What did it matter anyway?
She let out a sigh and rolled on her back. At least her GiGi had it easier with her grandfather. They never had to hide their relationship. She married young and they had a great life together. Nowadays her age group were not thinking about marriage.
She grabbed her journal to jot some thoughts down.
I love Tristan.
Does he love me?
Maybe I'm just another notch on his belt even though we have only done little things. We almost got to something more wild before his mother came.
She laid back and smiled, remembering the kisses from Tristan down her stomach.
If only she could hear what Tristan was saying to his mother. Were they talking about her? Did he finally spill the beans, or did his mother confront him about lying about what she already knew? If his mother did not care they were together, why did she seem so uptight?
