In this very part of the 10e’s adventure with random members they picked up, I introduce a new way of making combat more immersive for readers alike.
The 10e soldiers sat around the town central, taking a break after all that fighting. Chatter just spread amongst the ranks, while they ate their randomized rations. Danish and Howlingwolf were back “wooing” Gwen, or in simple terms according to Gwen himself, annoying him with bird-style mating calls. The non-10e players, such as Mondrei and Lebber, explored the town, checking for good defenses. The town had neo-classical houses, the walls being smooth as if no bullets had penetrated them yet. Some houses were destroyed due to the howitzer explosion, although Mondrei figured that the houses regenerate by themselves, not staying permanently damaged.
Frantic steps echoed from inside the church as Juango came out, holding the flag with a single hand. He went to the center of the group, and proclaimed,
“Enemy reinforcements!”
The group took up arms and prepared, trying to find cover in the houses nearby. Prince took notice and began to shout at the group, warning them.
“Don’t get in the houses!” He said, looking around. Juango also noticed, and followed Prince’s warning.
“Everyone! Don’t!”
“Where are we supposed to take cover in, then?” Dino snarled, walking out from behind a cart.
“Hmm. Outside the town! The Outskirts!” Juango replied, taking time to think it out.
“Sappers, begin digging trenches, please.” He followed on.
Juango then turned towards Hellion, noticing his Savage model 99 rifle with a long, early modern era scope.
“And you, watch from on top of that house’s roof.”Howlingwolf and Henryk began digging on the side of the town, adding in mountain guns and Cheval-de-frise stakes. Hellion climbed up on the nearest two-story house, using the window to creep up to the roof. Looking in the scope, he saw the silhouettes of a caravan heading to the town. They wove blue and Gondorian flags, mounted to their carriages. Meanwhile, the rest of 10e crouched down in the trench, and a few in houses facing the direction. Prince and Pyroman unslung the carriages they carried attached to their horses and went straight for the enemy column, followed by Lebber.
[[COMBAT REPORT – DIALOGUE]]
Prince: I suggest that we- horse steps on gravel path, setting him slightly unbalanced, although he recovers seconds after - we split apart and like, cut through!
Lebber, looking at the incoming column: Like, cut through the line?
Prince nods, pulling out his sabre. Lebber follows along, except for Pyroman, who decided to pull out a Mauser C96. Prince glared at it in awe.
Prince: And how’d you get that? I thought we only had revolvers...
Pyroman: lots and lots of skills from a revolver. A game mechanic of getting new stuff.
Prince: Interesting.
The trio split apart, encircling the convoy of carriages. The enemy inside the carriages spotted them, and rifles began to fire at the cavalrymen, although they were not deterred, even if bullets whizzed past their ear. Pyroman swooped in on the rear carriage, shooting his Mauser at it with little aiming. He had gotten a single kill, as he dis-engaged for his next target.
The escorting cavalry of the convoy noticed their presence, and soon turned towards the trio, the enemy numbering to 5 cavalry. Lebber and Prince switched their sabres for firearms, and began trailing to the left side of the column. Now in a “salvo” position, the trio took aim and fired. One enemy cavalrywoman had fallen off her mount, a .577 snider bullet from Lebber’s Howdah pistol piercing her side.Prince: Now we’re even.
The enemy cavalry began firing back, although the trio galloped forwards. With two shots from Prince’s Modelè 1892, he took down the leading horse, stopping the carriage entirely as another one behind collided into it. The convoy was completely halted for a few seconds, until some carriages began moving out of the way. An explosion had just landed a few meters off a carriage, coming from one of the mountain guns in the town. Prince believed they had already won the battle, completely avoiding the convoy from attacking the town.
