I know I look irritated; my red furry fox tail is swaying back and forth frantically, which usually happens when I'm angry. The animalistic fox ear twitching doesn't help either. It probably also doesn't help that I'm standing with my arms crossed, glaring as I watch him get ready.

"Do you not remember any of this, Husk?" I question as I watch him walk around the room. "This whole conversation I had with you about how I got here? Why I've been hiding from him? Why I came to you?" I continue, still irritated.

"Well now that you've repeated everything almost verbatim, I remember." Husk responds but still doesn't look at me. He's too busy picking out which bowtie he's going to wear for tonight.

I growl, my anger rising. "Do I have to remind you of everything I've done for you since our deal?" I ask him. Not like I'm going to give him a choice.

I remember after our deal I went hard to work.

"I would doll myself up and walk the floors of your casino, finding the high rollers and either distracting them enough with words of encouragement or simple flirting tactics to make them lose to the floor. I would find wealthy looking patrons to steal from before they left, building up a pile of goods that could be sold to the streets on the South side of the pentagram for a good price."

I hear Husk sigh "Yes, I understand. But listen-" I interrupt him.

"You know preference doesn't matter to me. If I'm distracting a woman, man, or non-binary pan, it doesn't bother me one bit. As long as I'm holding up my end of the bargain. It's not like I'm taking any of them to bed." I argue.

Finally, Husk turns to look at me. He's holding a liquor bottle in one hand and looks confused. "Wait, you've never slept with any of the patrons? I would've thought by now-" I interject again, holding my hand up to stop his train of thought.

"Not the point I'm going for, Husk. But no, I haven't." I clarify. He gestures for me to continue.

"Plus, with my shape shifting abilities, I can con any patron you ask me to. If you had a specific target, I could spend time researching the target and becoming whoever the best person was for the situation. All this effort for your casino." I point at Husk, still irritated. "I've gone above and beyond what I promised, and this is how you respond?" I question through gritted teeth.

He doesn't say anything for a few seconds, as if seeing if I'll continue or interrupt him. When I don't, he finally responds.

"You've been absolutely fantastic, and I couldn't ask for a better con artist under my wing." He begins, taking a swig of his alcoholic beverage.

"I don't know if today of all days is a good day for you to get drunk." I throw in.

Husk laughs. "I don't plan on getting wasted, but a little liquid courage is sometimes good in these big stake games." He explains. I guess I wouldn't know, I don't gamble. "You act like I haven't held up my end of our deal. Have you been attacked? Kidnapped? By him or anyone for that matter! You haven't. You've been living it up here in the casino under my protection like I promised." I'm only a hair taller than Husk, but he still finds a way to make me feel small sometimes.

"You're fine! You have nothing to be bitching about." Husk states as he walks up to me and pats my cheek. "If you want a front row seat, you know you're welcome." He begins walking away and laughs. "Disguise yourself if you want, maybe I could use your expertise during this round if things start looking bad." He looks back at me.

"I don't understand why you agreed to gamble with him in the first place!" I yell, finally losing my composure. "You think he really just wants to gamble for fun?! He's going to find your weakness and use it, Husk!" I explain.

I hear Husk growl. "No, I don't think he just wants to play a friendly game. But he'll be in my territory, playing my games. I'll easily take him for everything he has." The way Husk looks makes me think he's going mad.

I know I'm showing teeth like an angry wild animal. I can feel the growl starting in my throat. I take a deep breath and put my hands up in defense, trying to calm myself down and calm the situation down.

"Okay." I say calmly. "I'm sorry. I'm just worried." I explain.

Husk takes a breath and calms down as well. "I understand." He verifies my feelings. "I haven't lost to a single soul since I've been here. I'm not about to start tonight, okay?" He has a soft smile. I can tell he's trying to make me feel better. It's not his fault, but I don't know if anything he says will make me feel better.

"Okay." I smile back. "I'll help how I can." I clarify, following Husk out of the room and heading to the private gambling room that is set up for this game.

"Thanks, I appreciate it." Husk says as he cracks his knuckles. "It'll be like taking candy from a baby." He says confidently.

I'm not sure how to disguise myself for this. It takes me a minute to think of something. Before we leave the hallway, I think of a tall and muscular hellhound. My height has grown, voice is now much deeper, and I look like someone others will not want to fuck with. I tower over Husk.

"Take him for everything he has, Husk." I encourage, sounding like a man who could sing a bass line with ease.

Husk smiles and opens the doors to the room. There's one blackjack table, dim lighting, drinks available, and his opponent sitting calmly on the other side.

"Sorry to keep you waiting. My hellhound had to break up a fight on the casino floor, so we had a slight delay." Husk easily lies as he approaches the table. I lean against the wall nearby, crossing my arms but not saying anything.

"It's no trouble at all." His staticky radio voice brings back nightmares and I have to do everything I can to not physically cringe. "I'm happy to have this chance with an overlord like you. I'm surprised you're interested in a game of this caliber." He mentions as he tilts his head in curiosity. That same shit eating grin plastered on his face.

"Are you kidding? This will be the most exciting game of my death!" Husk says as he starts shuffling cards. "A game wagering souls with Alastor, the Radio Demon, I wouldn't pass this opportunity up." As Husk shuffles he looks at Alastor. "Do I need to explain the rules of the game?" He asks.

Alastor shakes his head in disagreement. "No need, I've become familiar with how this is played." He mentions as cards are handed out. I feel a pit in my stomach. How does he already know how to play?

"This will prove to be most entertaining." Alastor laughs as he picks up his cards.
